Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis (R-VA) Dies Of Cancer

Congresswoman Jo Ann Davis (R-VA) has died of breast cancer. She was 57 year old.

Congresswoman Davis was first elected to the House in 2000, becoming the first female Republican elected to Congress from Virginia, and had a strongly conservative voting record.

This is the second congress person to die fairly young from cancer . . .

I'm from Virginia, and while I mourn the loss of a courgeous lady, this piece of data is incorrect.

Leslie Byrne(D) was elected to the 11th CD seat in 1992, making her the first woman from Virginia elected to Congress.

Byrne ran for the Democratic nomination for the Senate in 1994 against Mark Warner, who defeated her. Rep. Tom Davis (R) won the 11th CD that year.

My bad. The AP story originally said that Congresswoman Davis was the first woman elected to the House from Virginia. They have since corrected their story. I read completely through your words, Eric. Sorry.
