Thompson Endorsed By Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran

Fred Thompson has now received his first endorsement from a Senator outside his home state of Tennessee: Thad Cochran of Mississippi.

"Senator Thompson is the candidate best able to win the general election in 2008 and carry our conservative values all the way to the White House," Cochran said in a Thompson campaign press release. "I worked closely with him in the United States Senate and know he has the conservative values, integrity, experience, and judgment to unite our country, lead our nation, fight the Global War on Terrorism, and keep us safe."

Thompson keeps gaining, as today's new polls show, and mostly at the expense of Romney. But don't read too much into it. These are the same people who went to Romney after his Iowa straw poll victory, and they'll just go to whoever has some momentum. Thompson's bounce is definitely fragile.

Thad Cochran? I lived in Mississippi for seven years, and Cochran was really overshadowed by Lott. You hardly ever heard anything about Cochran. So I don't know how much impact this endorsement has.

On the other hand, Cochran is an Ole Miss alumn, and, I believe, a former cheerleader like Trent, so maybe this will play big with Ole Miss alumns...
