Report: Johanns Running For Senate
It looks like the strongest possible Republican candidate for the open Senate seat in Nebraska is in the race. Former Governor Mike Johanns has reportedly informed his supporters that he's resigning as secretary of agriculture to return home — the first step in starting his candidacy.
Democrats have been courting their own dream candidate, former Senator Bob Kerrey, who retired in 2000 after 12 years in the Senate.

Probably the best news Republicans have gotten in weeks. This at least means that the seat will not be a blow-out for Democrats. But it still remains a top opening.

SO how does a Kerrey - Johanns race handicap? Seems like Kerrey has the cards on National Security.

I honestly have no idea what a Kerrey-Johanns race would look like. I'd love to see some polling, as I really don't know what to expect.

In red state NE Mike Johanns will win hands down. NE loves their Republicans no matter what their record.
I think Johanns was generally liked by people in both parties so another ace in the hole for Johanns.
I was always surprised that Bob Kerrey became governor because NE generally always votes in a Republican. However, I think Kerrey is a very conservative Dem so almost like a Republican.
Kerrey has a wonderful sense of humor, but that's about all I can say for him.
