Poll: Majority Say Surge Not Working

A new CBS/New York Times poll shows that 45% of Americans do not believe the surge has had an impact in Iraq, compared to 35% who say things have gotten better and 12% who say the situation has gotten worse. Also, 35% say troop levels should be decreased, and 30% say all troops should be removed entirely, compared to only 19% who want to maintain current troop levels and 11% who say deployments should be increased.

The poll shows President Bush with an approval rating of 30%, with 64% disapproval — statistically unchanged from the 29%-65% number a month ago.
