Paccione Drops Out Of Colorado House Race

A 2006 House candidate who came close to knocking off a Republican incumbent has now ended her 2008 campaign for the seat.

Former Colorado state Representative Angie Paccione, who lost to right-wing Congresswoman Marilyn Musgrave in a 46%-43% race, had declared her new campaign late in the Spring, but dropped out of the race today.

This leaves two candidates for the Democratic nomination: Betsy Markey, the establishment favorite and a former aide to U.S. Senator Ken Salazar; and Eric Eidsness, a former Reagan Administration official who ran in 2006 as the Reform Party candidate, but recently switched to the Dems. Markey is heavily favored to win the nomination.

It's a shame. Paccione was a good candidate last year and would have had better name recognition this year. Hopefully the remaining candidates can give Musgrave the boot, the woman's an embarassment.

This is really a shame... I liked Paccione a lot, but Musgrave is definitely in a toss-up race. She has always underperformed, and the Democrats will go after her this time. They picked-up CO3 in 2004 and CO-7 in 2006. Now it's time for CO4.

Check out these House rankings.

Joy. Wonderful choices: a former Reaganite and an aid to Lieberman light.

Guess I'll concentrate on the Senate race this time around.

It is easy to see why Betsy Markey will have the edge in this campaign. Just go to her website - at www.betsymarkey.com and read what she believes to be the major issues. She is an in depth and independent thinker. And, more progressibe than Ken Salazar. There is no way she will follow Ken's move to the center once she arrives in the House.

The advantage she had working for him was her need to be out in the field (mostly northern 4th District going to the borders) helping people solve their issues with the government and who had never been responded to by the Musgrave camp. She was key in writing legislation for the Rocky Mountain Wildnerness area - which, once done, Allard and Musgrave tried to take credit for.

Before you say no to Betsy - do hear her out.

This comes from an ardent Paccione supporter and volunteer in the last election.
