Huckabee Hits Bush, Compares Him To Musharraf
In a foreign-policy speech yesterday, Mike Huckabee severely faulted President Bush's handling of the War on Terror, specifically in regards to his trust of the regimes in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan — and even compared Bush to the military strongman who presides over the latter country.
"Just like Musharraf, since 9/11, the Bush administration has played both ends and the middle, assuring the American people that it’s doing everything it can to protect them, while tiptoeing around our supposed ally," Huckabee said. "It’s been afraid of upsetting the apple cart, even though the cart contains poisoned apples destined for export to the United States."

Anyway, I hope this quite gets wide distribution.
disgusted: All they would have to do is agree with Huckabee.

I haven't read the full transcript (or anything more than what's here), but doesn't anyone else think it's strange that this is the one criticism of Bush? I mean come on. Huckabee supports the Iraq debacle, let's not forget.

To be president AND to get to wear that fantastic uniform whenever he wants. To just say "I want to be General and President and I want 5 more years in office." just like that. Whoa. That rocks. And to get the Supreme Court to say "That's OK" by a 6 to 3 vote. That's like "Mission Accomplished" times like 10,000!!

Well, I kinna always like Huckabee, even though we are at diametrically at opposite sides when it comes to a woman's reproductive rights, religion in government, and so on.
At least I think the guy is honest. He's always talked about the poor; and as a Southern Baptist minister, I hearken back to the Lee Boyd Malvo jury trial where the jury foreman was also a Southern Baptist minister and I had great hope that he would not get the death penalty; he didn't.
Ditto for the case of Troy Anthony Davis where the Board of Paroles was headed by a deeply religious man of the Southern Baptist-kind who granted the reprieve to examine new evidence that proved a man on Death Row was wrongfully convicted.
My point is that some Southern Baptists really do try to live a Christian life -- as best as their mortal flesh allows. And out of all the phony GOP candidates, I would trust Huckabee above all the others.
always found a good share of preachers that ere considerably more open minded than their narrow minded flock.
although I personally oppose abortionspolar sides of the totally different sides
Ben Cronin wrote on September 30, 2007 1:05 AM:I agree with the above comments: Huckabee is the only one of the GOP side who seems like a genuine human being, with at least a passing interest in those outside themselves.
Giuliani = psycho hose-beast
Romney = Android business slut
McCain = broken rump of a once viable GOP
Thompson = wtf? Seriously?
Brownback = Torquemada
Alan Keyes = Poseur clown maniac
Tancredo = Know-nothing Party member
Hunter = ?
Ron Paul also seems like a cool dude, albeit pretty wacky on certain issues, and deadly right (for reasons opposite mine) on others.
Jane wrote on September 30, 2007 10:07 AM:Huckebee does seem more like a human being than the rest of the 'publican party but on this one he is seriously scary: we are fighting in Iraq, we are at dire risk of fighting Iran and he wants to add Sunni Saudi Arabia home of Mecca?
More seriously, when are we going to acknowledge that Al Qaeda is more like the Bader Meinhoff gang with considerable public and clerical support than an outfit supported by a government?
Huckebee is seriously deluded in his belief that a fertilized human egg is morally equivalent to a human being and the very sincerity of his views on this point may make him dangerous to women's right on serveral levels. Does anyone have any evidence on this point from his actions as governor?
Also, would Huckebee reliably hold free and fair elections?
Helena Montana wrote on September 30, 2007 6:48 PM:Huckabee seems intelligent, articulate, thoughtful, and concerned about those less fortunate than himself. He does seem like a genuine what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of guy--right there he's got every triangulating, corporate slave Dem candidate beat, and certainly he shines down all of the GOP whores running.
If he ended up being the candidate, I might vote for him, even though I swore to myself I'd never vote for another Republican. If I could be assured that he would keep his religious and personal beliefs separate from his job, he would certainly be my boy.
Gopher Interloper wrote on September 30, 2007 8:07 PM:Jane 10:07 AM - "Huckebee does seem more like a human being than the rest ..."
This is one of the best blog posts I've read in any blog, anywhere, period.
I really mean it. First, a reasoned, pragmatic view of the middle-east situation in terms of Huckabee's stance; and it's exactly right, we need Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on our side, despite the very real and significantly negative qualities of their regimes.
Second, straight to the liberal talking points (and I don't doubt for a second that they match Jane's true beliefs) regarding the abortion issue. Well, everybody's pragmatic on some issues and inflexible on others.
Third ... I think I just heard the splash of someone diving into the deep end. "[W]ould Huckebee reliably hold free and fair elections?" Huh?
From pragmatic to party line to conspiracy theory. Cool.
Gopher Interloper wrote on October 1, 2007 12:36 AM:One wonders if there are any countries that can pass muster as a true friend of the US. Maybe we should just try to bully everybody into behaving the way we want them to behave.
Someone wishing to school Gov. Huckabee on why Bush "trusts" those regimes would point out that America is THE major trading partner of both countries; that Saudi Arabia is still where Mecca and Medina are located; that Pakistan is the ONLY country with a Muslim majority that has nuclear weapons RIGHT NOW. Different factions may feel that one or all of those reasons don't matter, but they do.
How scary is the thought that George W. Bush, stubborn inflexible ideologue that he often is, might actually be more realistic about the way things are in the real world than one of his party's candidates (a longshot, yes, but one who still has a slim chance to win the nomination) trying to succeed him?
There are plenty of legitimate reasons to criticize the way Bush has handled, or mishandled, the War on Terror -- such as not using enough forces, dividing the forces he had, and starting it with a plan that was this complex: "Get 'em!" If Huckabee wants to be treated seriously as a candidate he should focus on the real problems and forget about the harsh stance against imperfect allies.
