Howard Dean Hits Boehner Again Over "Small Price"
DNC chair Howard Dean is seeking to ratchet up the pressure on John "Small Price" Boehner in a new statement out to the national press corps, calling on voters to express their disapproval of Boehner's remark to their individual Representatives. You can read the whole thing here. Key quote:
"House Republican Leader John Boehner's comments on Wednesday are deplorable and he should apologize immediately. Our brave men and women who have given their lives in service to our country and their families have made the ultimate sacrifice, and to say anything less is insulting to their memories and service."
Meanwhile, in another bid to turn up the heat, the DNC has created a new Web site explicitly designed to enable people to email their Reps. about Boehner. It's here.

It's good to bring this up, but shouldn't at least part of the narrative be something like: "It's no wonder Boehner supports an open-ended stay in Iraq with no strategy by the White House if he doesn't think every American life is a big price and something of extreme value. Perhaps if Rep. Boehner put a bigger price on the lives of American troops, he'd be asking for a strategy beyond "stay the course" to get us out of Iraq. I hope the White House doesn't feel the same..."
I hate putting motivations into what politicians do, but the above inference seems justified.

The GOP's Senate disarray is now extending to the House. This Boehner controversy is only one symptom of it. The Republicans are having recruitement problems, threats of resignation and open seats left and right.

Apparently the GOP's new standard set by the MoveOn ad is if you don't strongly condemn a public statement by someone on your side of the political spectrum it clearly indicates you are endorsing that sentiment. Therefor, I think it should be explained to each GOP Congressman that unless they immediately call for Boehner to resign his leadership post they must be in agreement with his assessment that the lives of our soldiers are trivial.
