Hagel Portrait Falls As He Announces Retirement
Now this is fun — and almost enough to make you believe in omens. As Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE) was delivering his retirement announcement at the Omaha Press Club today, a caricature portrait of the Senator, hanging on the wall behind him with other caricatures of state politicians, slipped and fell to the ground.
Hagel's reaction: "I would have preferred to have somebody else tumble down."

We are now all waiting for announcements from Kerrey, Warner and Shaheen. If all three jump in, all hell would break loose for the GOP. But if they do not, well... Republicans actually might salvage their chances! Check out these Senate rankings!

Although many consider Nebraska a Red State, remember that Chuck Hagel is the first Republican elected to the Senate seat by Nebraskans since 1972. This opening is an excellent chance for the Democrats to pick up a seat.

In resigning at the end of his Senatorial term and eschewing a run for the Presidency, Chuck Hagel is crazy...like a fox.
He has the respect of many outside the Republican party including some Democrats and Independents. His departure could be a smart play...for being considered as a Vice-Presidential candidate.
He is more centrist, more non-partisan and more balanced in his politics than most other Republicans. I'd not be surprised if some wise candidate for President looked at him seriously as a Veep candidate.
I'm a Democrat...and, I respect him greatly.
