Brownback Would Require Women To Get An Ultrasound Before An Abortion
Sam Brownback has introduced a bill guaranteed to go nowhere fast — but also guaranteed to score points with the social conservatives. His Ultrasound Informed Consent Act would require women seeking abortions to have an ultrasound first.
His Senate office's press release says: "The requirements of the Ultrasound Informed Consent Act are placed solely on the doctor, not the patient. A woman seeking an abortion may refuse to view the images of the ultrasound after the results are made available to her." However, it's worth noting that the woman would still be required to submit to the ultrasound, whether she looked at the screen or not.
"I am hopeful that this bill will inform women and will cause a deeper reflection on the humanity of unborn children," Brownback said in the statement. "It is important to promote a culture that values life in all stages."

Obviously Brownback's never seen an 11 week ultrasound.
You can't see anything in there, certainly nothing that looks like anything human.
Just another stupid, wrongheaded effort to end a woman's right to choose.
Hey prolifers - if you didn't sire it or carry it, it's none of your damn business.

Yes, we must value life at all stages. Ants, cockroaches and mice in your house? Value them. Wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap? Not if you value life at all stages. Throw away that moldy mystery meat in the fridge? Better not.

Will Brownback's bill pick up the charges for the ultrasound, or is this another conservative unfunded mandate?

When Brownback partakes of the Eucharist, does he then excrete remnants of Jesus?
Is he thus cannibalistic and is that truly valuing life?
I can play his game too!

Hangnails contain living cells with a complete complement of DNA. With the cloning techniques becoming available all of those cells are potential human beings. So is he arguing that we commit mass murder when we clip a hangnail?

This should be called the Brownback Run up the Bill Act. The picture of a speck on an ultrasound isn't going to deter someone who can't face 20 years of raising a child, who for whatever there reason, is not wanted. This candidate should not to be in the news for he wants, but what he has done.

I don't know that I'd be so sure that this bill is "guaranteed to go nowhere fast". In the current climate, especially with the Dems so inexplicably but none-the-less obviously anxious to pander to the reich-wing, nonsense like this, that used to seem, and should seem ridiculous is no longer so unlikely . . .

In a related matter, vegan candidate Dennis Kucinich introduced a bill that all children in the Brownback family under the age of 11 will be required to visit a slaughterhouse killing floor before being allowed to have a hotdog at the next Brownback family picnic.
"I am hopeful that this bill will inform children and will cause a deeper reflection on the viability of living creatures of God," Kucinich said in the statement. "It is important to promote a culture that values life in all stages."
