MoveOn Takes Its Anti-Rudy Ad National

Game on. MoveOn is escalating its showdown with Rudy Giuliani: The organization just announced that they'll now be running the Iowa ad hitting Rudy -- which they unveiled yesterday -- nationally on CNN.

The hard-hitting spot slams Rudy for ditching the Iraq Study Group and instead going on the lecture circuit. It asks why people should take Rudy's views on Iraq seriously when he passed on a chance to make a major contribution to the Iraq debate at a time when he wasn't running for President. MoveOn's new ad buy costs $50,000.

Rudy responded to MoveOn's initial Iowa buy with a radio ad in the state today saying that the group was only attacking him because he's "their worst nightmare." Now we have MoveOn's response to Rudy -- and as a result, the national audience is now being told the tale of Rudy's ditching of the ISG. Good stuff.

The only way to take on Rudy is to get in his face. He has been getting away with stuff that, when shown in daylight, will give voters a much more informative picture of the man and the myths.

Go MoveOn Go!

Has this ever happened before in the history of presidential politics? Rudy's running, during the primaries, not against his Republican opponents, not really against the Dems (aside from his swipe at HRC) but against a liberal activist group. Imagine Obama campaigning against the Heritage Society or the Weekly Standard. It's insane. Oh wait, there is a precedent. Rudy is doing a cover of George Wallace's presidential runs. Don't let them through the school house door, Rudy!

No one in New York would be at all surprised by all this.

Rudy is full of shit, always has been always will be. When he was mayor he clogged the courts with pointless illegal unconstitutional lawsuits he knew he'd never win just to be an asshole, threatened to cut funding of art museums to pander to radical foaming-at-the-mouth religious jackasses, built an emergency center within walking distance of his office so he could bang his whore-of-the-moment, hired a mobbed-up clown to be police commissioner, took credit for every good thing that happened in the city and bullied anyone who dared suggest he was a duplicitous grandstanding douche who treated the constitution like a curious list of interesting suggestions.

I'd love to imagine Obama or any Dem running aganst the Heritage society or the Am. Enterprs. Inst. !!! What would be wrong with that, isn't that exactly what we need --national attention on these skunks and the businesses behind their donors -- to start dis-mantling the right-wing noise machine?

Anyway, I repeat my call for serious leftists -- people who can set aside their attachments to ideologies and candidate preferences, people who understand the seriousness of the threat to our children -- serious leftists to organize NOW for 2012 and 2016, to change America's foreign policy away from imperialism; to do that we will also have to restore the Constitution, re-form the media and re-build small-d democracy in America, and probably we'll have to go after global warming and corporate personhood too.

We need to be organized politically in the media and on the ground in every Cong. district in America, and we need to be organized socially to save ourselves and our families no matter which way American fates may turn in the coming years ...
I'm knocking on doors in Oregon with a special election here, I'm going on community access cable TV here, watch for a website coming ... please start now with your own networks too. Organize now so we can have a political apparatus that will be able to end American imperialism starting in 2012.

Remember MoveOn has lost of furious NYC fire fighters in their pocket for more anti-Rudy ads.

I suspect MoveOn can hurt Rudy more than Rudy can hurt MoveOn

I look forward to whether Fox News will devote as much screaming air time to this MoveOn.org's ad. Somehow, I don't think so.

I like the ad. And I'm really happy that it's going to get national air time. 'Bout time people west of the Hudson learned about lil' Rudy.

Great Ad. Nothing in it can be challenged on the facts.

He had a chance to help the country and he chose to make more money. Very simple and should be repeated until the end of the primaries.

"He had a chance to help the country and he chose to make more money. Very simple and should be repeated until the end of the primaries."

Such a fact will have little to know effect on GOP primary voters. Making money at the nation's expense is their primary motivation afterall. I think this ad is meant more to target independent types who don't know Rudy like NYCers know him.

I hope to see even more heavy-hitting adds in the future. This one was pretty tame.

Featherfamily, the easiest way around the scare stories flacks like Rudy tell is to appeal to craven base emotional level of the American voter. Yes, I'm talking economics, and the idea that we spend 12 billion a month in pursuit of military war against a non military enemy, a noun no less, should be enough to tip things by 2012. Since Cheney and the neocons are always quoting " Reagan proved deficits don't matter" ( I know it's a bullshit argument, bear with me here) we can toss that back in their face. Medicare insolvency? Borrow the money to fix it. Social Security shaky? Borrow the money. Infrastructure rotting under our feet? Borrow the money! Thanks for the idea, neocons. There is NOTHING facing us we can't creatively spend our way out of! Think someone is a threat? Give them some money! Imagine if we had not had American War profiteers in Iraq and Afghanistan and just sent even twp billion a month to distribute evenly among the population? Who wouldn't repudiate Al Quaeda's wahaabiist thoght school if they all had fat bank accounts?

And THAT my friends is how you do non-imperialism.

As has been said above, nobody in NYC is surprised by this. If MoveOn stays in Rudy's face, he may finally blow his cork, which, will also not surprise anyone in NYC.

He's vulnerable on this, and he does not deal with his vulnerabilities being exploited. The only thing that is surprising is that he hasn't blown up yet.

Rudy seems to be fighting with his shadow.

The ridiculousness of his fight with a PAC says more about rudy than moveon.org

keep it going rudy, you never had a chance anyway, too much luggage weighed you down.

too bad you don't get it. You're going the way of the Straight Talk Express....straight over the cliff, hahaha....

I would suggest that Moveon's next ad include gcs' rant. That was hilarious. And true.

I still think our beloved MSM will spin this as a win for Rudy, when they are not ignoring the unassailable substance of the charges.

"...took credit for every good thing that happened in the city and bullied anyone who dared suggest he was a duplicitous grandstanding douche who treated the constitution like a curious list of interesting suggestions."

OH!
Rudy!
My bad.
For a minute there, I thought you were talking about The Worst President Ever.

Then I realized it couldn't be him, because nothing good has happened under Bush.

I donated money and held a fund raiser for David dinkins in 1993 when he ran against Rudy. At the time there were homeless people sleeping in my doorway, urinating on my building, the trains were full of graffitti, taxes were high, elderly women were getting robbed in good neighborhoods, city agencies were corrupt, the cops were demoralized, the city was filthy and the sanitation Department was run by the mob. Then Rudy was elected and slowly, day by day he rolled up his sleeves and all these negatives were fixed. Today NYC is gorgeous and safe and one man fought against the tide to get it there. His name is Rudy Giuliani and I'm a lifelong democrat, Al gore volunteer in 1988. Rudy is not smooth, he's got rough edges but he's not corrupt and he works hard. Educate yourself
