Reid Spokesman Rips White House Over Push For Closed-Door Petraeus Briefing
Earlier this afternoon we asked Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office for a reaction to our story earlier today, which reported that the House Foreign Affairs Committee is claiming that despite denials, the White House did in fact push for a closed-door Petraeus briefing.
Now Reid spokesman Jim Manley has emailed over the following response:
"Despite the fact that it is from the same crowd that gave us `mission accomplished,' today's news is stunning. It's absolutely outrageous to think that the White House would try to prevent General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker from testifying in public. What in the world can they be afraid of?"

What in the world could they be afraid of, indeed.
I think that's something the Dems need to hammer home with... create a meme that the Administration isn't being secretive because of state secrets, but because they're afraid of revealing the truth.

The greatest enemy of this administration is, was, and will always be...the truth. They have nothing to fear but the truth. How awkward then, knowing that Petraeus is going to testify to the truth of the reality of the surge. Gotta SPIN that baby somehow someway before it ever hits the street.

. . . despite denials, the White House did in fact push for a closed-door Petraeus briefing.
My question -- and it may be a little off topic but enquiring minds do want to know -- is, "Just who did the pushing? Was it Mr. White House or Ms. White House -- and if the latter, was she carrying a Prada bag -- this one, perhaps?"

And, if recent history continues to prevail, Reid's office will huff and puff about the scandalous duplicity that is the sum total of the Bush WH, and then back w-a-a-a-y down and accede to closed-door testimony.
The voters who hoped last November that they were un-leashing a couple of wild-cats to tear into the GOP mis-governance and fraud, are coming to the conclusion that, instead, we are fighting the battle with a few worn-out old pussies..

"Was it Mr. White House or Ms. White House?"
It might have been this Ms. White House wearing this bag:

Quite possibly they are afraid of what Petraeus is already on record as having stated. That is that using the "surge" tactics it will likely take 10 years to be successful.
I would think that those in the audience should already be aware of this.
