Poll: Hillary Doubles Lead Over Obama; Rudy Slips
A new Pew poll finds that Hillary has sharply expanded her national lead over Barack Obama among registered Democrats and independents who lean Dem -- and now leads him nearly two to one:
Clinton 40% Obama 21% Gore 12% Edwards 11%
Hillary's 19 point lead over Obama is nearly double the 10 point lead she had in the April Pew poll, which found her leading Obama 34%-24%. Pew says that support for Hillary has gone up most "among independent Democrats, liberals and moderates, college graduates, middle-aged and older voters."
Meanwhile, on the GOP side, Rudy leads the pack with 27%, but his lead appears to have slipped as Thompson gained:
Since April, Giuliani support has declined (32% to 27%) as has McCain's (23% to 16%) while Thompson has gained significantly (10% to 18%.). Thompson has caught up to Giuliani among independents who lean Republican, as Giuliani's support has fallen by half.

She's running a disciplined campaign and always comes prepared. Her debate performances are paying off, big time.

You know Greg, it seems inevitable that by posting this someone will come out and say you're a "Hillary-bot Obama hater" or some similar such trash.
Please ignore them and continue posting lots of great news about the upcoming election and all the candidates and news, regardless of whose hobby horse gets rocked.

Yep, keep posting this stuff.
I can't wait to hear from everyone who thinks Election Central is biased in favor of Obama...
I'm guessing that there aren't going to be so many claims of hackery with this post.

Why would we liberals have anything against a Republican Lite like Greg posting evil news? :-)
We are used to the baddies winning.

I hope not. For me, I'm gonna call it when I see it.

Three polls by three firms in two days showing Clinton increasing her lead and essentially doubling Obama has to be good news for Clinton. It seems the more Obama challenges Clinton, the better she does. Perhaps he should rethink his strategy.
I keep saying that Clinton is running stronger than she is getting credit for (to a series of boos and troll ratings). I keep on saying that underestimating her is to the peril of other candidates. If people aren't careful, then Clinton really will become inevitable.
Obama has a ton of money and still seems to have momentum in that area. If these polling trends continue what effect will that have on his fundraising and the race as a whole? How is Obama going to spin these numbers? How is Edwards going to spin these numbers? (He appears to be sliding in Iowa and nationally.)

But I don't want to let anyone down so I'll ask why in the world is Gore in there?
Gore
14% April
12% July
If Gore were in the race all my money would be on him. But he isn't.

"Fewer than one-in-three citizens (30%) have given a lot of thought to the candidates running for president. That percentage has not changed markedly in recent months even though a large share of the public says they been paying at least some attention to campaign news generally1 and to the televised debates, specifically."
Same Pew Report.

But you somehow keep forgetting that she keeps losing to Republicans in some polls.
Is that what you call "running strong?"
I was going to give you a 5 rating but you need to use your caps key more when you repeat the old songs over and over.

I find polls generally disturbing myself. It's very disheartening to see a considerable majority of this country think or want something and then watch it dramatically not happen.
I am also growing more and more concerned with our election process as a whole. I fear that our closed (effectively only two party) political system tends to generate cookie-cutter candidates which adds to polarization and leaves more and more people feeling powerless in the entire process. And it's from this position that we hear that catchy phrase -"voting for the lesser of two evils". I predict that during the upcoming '08 elections that we will hear that phrase being muttered quite often on all sides. And without real access to viable alternative candidates who offer people even the slightest chance of winning then I just don't see things improving. (BTW I think getting rid of the Electoral College would be a wonderful step in the right direction).
With maybe an exception or two, when I'm asked to choose amongst the vast field of candidates (while I reflect on what we have in Washington now) I too can sometimes feel a little despondent. At times I feel like I'm being asked what type of terminal disease would I most like to be afflicted with.

Those sort of statements aren't the ones garnering low ratings. Purposeful misstatements about the candidates are.
Regardless, the Iowa and New Hampshire polls are the ones that matter, and the movement in them is not so clear.
That and it's August, which pollsters all note is the hardest time to poll.

These are the sort of responses you get when your candidate is not doubling their lead over the closest rival.
