Reid: GOP Dissenters Must "Back Up Their Words With Action"

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) released this statement today, regarding Senator Pete Domenici's (R-NM) endorsement of making the Iraq Study Group's recommendations into the official U.S. policy:

"Senator Domenici is correct to assess that the Administration's war strategy is misguided. But we will not see a much-needed change of course in Iraq until Republicans like Senators Domenici, Lugar and Voinovich are willing to stand up to President Bush and his stubborn clinging to a failed policy – and more importantly, back up their words with action. Beginning with the Defense Authorization bill next week, Republicans will have the opportunity to not just say the right things on Iraq, but vote the right way too so that we can bring the responsible end to this war that the American people demand and deserve.

"As evidence mounts that the 'surge' is failing to make Iraq more secure, we cannot wait until the Administration's September report before we change course. President Bush and the Iraqis must move now to finally accept a measure of accountability for this war, implement the Iraq Study Group recommendations, transition the mission for our combat troops and start bringing them home from an intractable civil war."

It's about time Harry!!! You are exactly right. Talk is cheap.

Good for Harry, I agree. It's no surprise vulnerable GOP Senators up for re-elect will look for some way, any way, to distance themselves from W.'s disastrous policies. But they will assuredly try to do so in the most toothless, craven way possible.

Give 'em Hell, Harry.

Excellent. Now when are Harry and Nancy going to back up their words with the only actions that are appropriate and meaningful; impeach and convict Bush and Cheney?

user-pic

Now what would you rather have? Republicans coming over to help end the war or a faield impeachment attempt? I'd rather end the war.

Lugar and Voinovich aren't up for reelection.

All three have indicated they're not satisfied to let Bush drive.

That's a BFD, and it's the lead end of a wedge ... even if it's not your wedge.

We're all for action. The Democrats are in no position to demand action rather than words. If the congressional Democrats were actually committed to ending the disaster in Iraq, and to preventing one's starting in Iran (and the rest of the Middle East), as opposed to looking for talking points to get more Democrats elected, and so more patronage in the hands of Democrats, and so more money pouring in to Democrats, they would have done something about Iraq long ago, and they would stop trying to outdo Bush in pledging fealty to nuclear bombing Iran.

Kindly show us your evidence that

A) Impeachment will certainly fail

AND

B) Any attempt at justice will strengthen Republican support for a disastrous and unpopular war.

It's major that Lugar broke with Bushit. It will give cover -- if not actual backbone -- to other Republican't Senators to do the same. And that means the obstruction of the Democrat's efforts will begin to evaporate.

Hopefully that will also mean, finally, the Democrat-bashing for the Republican foot-dragging will cease. That couldn't happen too soon.

Show us that the Democratic "majority" in the Senate is more than illusion.

Get the republicans to cooperate on ending the war. Then they will be more ammenable to taking the next step: impeachment.

It's about timing -- politics is the art of the possible -- not about the demand for the impossible by the blindly blue-faced wet-diapered tantrumy entitled.

Your first sentence is correct. All those which follow it are a contradiction of that first sentence.

Make up your mind: either bash the Democrats because the Republicans are foot-dragging. Or bash the Republicans for foot-dragging.

Why do you think there is a Democratic majority in the Senate? Your math skills could use remediation.

Get the republicans to cooperate on ending the war.

No need.

All that is required is for either body of Congress not to fund the war.

The diaper you smell is your own.

C'mon terry admit it, if by some miracle Dems could impeach, convict, remove from office and incarcerate Bush & Cheney for the rest of their natural lives you'd be calling them names for not going for the death penalty.

True.

LOL!
