Poll: "Undecided" Running Strong In Florida
A new Mason-Dixon poll in Florida shows "Undecided" is running strong in both parties, leading the GOP field with a strong plurality and statistically tying Hillary Clinton for the lead on the Democratic side:
Republicans
Undecided 34%
Giuliani 21%
F. Thompson 18%
McCain 11%
Romney 7%Democrats
Clinton 31%
Undecided 30%
Obama 17%
Edwards 12%
The numbers provide yet more evidence of just how wide open the primaries on both sides are right now. In this crucial state, Rudy Giuliani is apparently holding on to the slimmest of leads, and even a small movement from the undecided could change things. And as for the Democrats, Hillary Clinton certainly does have a substantial lead over Barack Obama and John Edwards for now — but there remain a whole lot of voters who are still up for grabs.

Good coverage Eric. Highlighting the undecideds definitely adds an important angle to the story. I hope we will continue at times to get some feel for how many are in that category.

Interesting. Much depends on the reasons for being undecided. If it's because they haven't paid any attention, that doesn't say much for any particular candidate's prospects. If they have paid attention but still haven't lit on a favorite, that would seem to favor the non-"frontrunners" because it's unlikely that Clinton or Obama are going to surprise them any more.
I'd guess that in the actual vote the undies will break disproportionately for Edwards, Dodd, or even Kucinich. In any case, it sure ain't over yet, no matter what the MSM says.
PS-- The story brings up an important point about the polls. Maybe TPM could start including the undecideds in the poll listing?
