Poll: Bush Approval Soars To 29%
Check out this article I found on the new New York Times/CBS poll numbers out this morning:
In a sign that President Bush may be beginning to stage his long-anticipated political comeback, the new New York Times/CBS poll finds that his approval rating is up two points from last month, soaring from 27% in June to 29% today.Republicans gleefully pointed to that and several other numbers in the poll to show that their party was on the upswing. They noted that the percentage of respondents who think the country is on the right track had jumped from 19% to 22%, and that the percentage who approve of Bush's Iraq performance had soared from 23% to 25%.
"We've been going on the offensive, and it's working," chortled one GOP operative. "We've been saying for a long time that the Democrats would overplay their hand, and now we're seeing the effects of that."
Republicans also gleefully pointed out that Congress' approval was mired at a dismal 29% -- a sign, experts said, that the Democrats might be getting ahead of the public with their aggressive push for withdrawal from Iraq.
"That's the same approval level that Bush is at, but as time will show, this is much, much worse for the Democrats than it is for the GOP, because, well, it just is. Republicans are always going up, and Democrats are always going down, so 29% means something very different for the GOP than it does for the Democrats," said one oft-quoted pundit who requested anonymity because he'd wrongly offered similar predictions in the past and didn't want to risk publicly getting it wrong again.
...as you've probably figured out by now, while these numbers are the actual results in the Times poll, the above is not a real news article -- it's nothing but my own crude and heavy-handed satire. But when it comes down to it, is it really all that outlandish?

Oh boy, Greg. You know people aren't going to read your last graf there...
Brace yourself.

Yes sir ...
That satire of yours does sound quite 'Dead' on the mark to these current times.
Corporatist newsies have a way of doing that to us ...
But it's always been that way.

Had me fooled.
Wrong word, use "surge" instead of "soar." It's one of the cool code words for the GOP MSM. That and "embolden" so try and work that word in too.

"gleeful Republicans, emboldened by the numbers..." blah, blah, blah...

I retract the request for replacing soar with surge. I just remembered Ashcroft's musical career and decided soar was quite appropriate. Maybe we'll spell it "sore" though.

Good on Byrd BTW. Dogs shouldn't be treated the way Republicans treat real people.
Incomprehensible story to me.
I once posted with some trepidation about our dog and others having cancer on a MB dealing with cancer. I was well aware that many had parents, children, friends, if not themselves, suffering from cancer.
I got an overwhelming and most satisfying response. The greatest killer of dogs today is cancer.
Not much to do with politics overall but damn it was good of Byrd to say something. Could make one feel there are some good people in politics after all.

This could all come true if the Democrats don't get their act together. Republican obstructionism in the Senate is starting to take its toll, and I don't think people are necessarily blaming the Republicans. And Nancy Pelosi's decision not to consider impeachment is possibly one of the stupidest decisions I've heard in a long time. The Democrats need to come up with a strategy soon that will actually yield some success.

The instant gratification-demanding neophytes aren't, certainly, blaming the Republicans. Indeed, to hear them bash the Democrats, one would think the entire Congress is comprised of Democrats -- that there aren't any Republicans in the smae room at the same time -- if one didn't know better.

Let's not bother with ethics, or appearances, okay? The Republicans don't. I mean, third in line for the presidency is the Speaker of the House. The Speaker of the House is Pelosi. If we include ethics, such as conflict of interest, and appearances -- which, of course, we don't want to do, because we're better than the Republicans, who don't include those -- Pelosi is the _LAST_ person who should initiate impeachment.

That's vague enough to be meaningless. Bushit's latest claim of Executive Privilege -- not allowing the DOJ to prosecute Congressional contempt charges -- is going to force the issue. Bushit doubtless believes the courts would uphold his claim. But Congress doesn't have to rely on the courts in order to enforce its oversight prerogatives.

Are you sure that's not written seriously somewhere that's supposed to be reputable?

It's hard to remember that at one point this very same poll counted only 7% -- SEVEN percent -- disapproved of Bush's actions as President.

This poll has great news in it. This appears to be the first poll in a long time to show Congress with better numbers than the President!
They are both at 29% approval, but finally, the President has a disapproval number that is 5 points higher than Congress.
Hoping the trend continues...

Thank you. We minorities aren't so bad when you get to know us. :-)
In reality I imagine there are vast areas that most of us can agree on.
Just one of them is dogs and the bastids that would abuse them.
I thank you for that.
