In Florida, 2006 Dem Nominee Christine Jennings Running Again For Congress
Good news for national Dem strategists: Christine Jennings, a former Republican businesswoman who ran unsuccessfully as a Democrat for Katherine Harris' open House seat in Florida, has officially announced that she will seek a rematch with freshman GOP Congressman Vern Buchanan.
National Democratic sources believe Jennings has the best of chance of any Democrat in the district, having lost to Buchanan last year by a razor-thin margin of 373 votes in a district that President Bush had carried with 56% in 2004.
Democrats widely believe that Jennings was in fact the rightful winner last year, but lost due to over 18,000 under-votes in the race from electronic voting machines in Sarasota County, where Jennings had run ahead. In fact, Jennings is still officially contesting the results in Congress.
Jennings may have an even better shot this year because of Bush's continued drop in popularity and rising public opposition to the war. Buchanan has voted down the line with the GOP leadership on Iraq, such as his recent No on the most recent House vote on whether to pull out of Iraq.
"We have an obligation to future generations to leave our country in better shape than when we inherited it," Jennings said at her campaign announcement in Sarasota, according to The Hill. Jennings clearly talked about the feeling among many supporters that the voting systems had corrupted her previous campaign: "But we must lead by our actions and not our words to inspire young people to become engaged in the political process. Restoring confidence in elections is an important step, but only the first."
Jennings has launched a new Web site, www.ChristineJennings2008.com, though as of this writing there is simply a contribution page and an invitation to sign up for future e-mail updates.

the problem in FL is the state legislature is so solidly republican and we have an entrenched republican governor that even if we pickup this seat they will just re-draw it anyway.
in 2000 we almost won a seat near Orlando and the next year they re-drew it to make it solidly republican and made a couple more districts republican in the process.
it really sucks and the legislative seats in FL are drawn just as solidly red so how are we gonna pick them up unless we have solid candidates and a lot of money (which the democratic party in FL doesn't have thanks to the insurance lobby)

This is good news. Now she has to keep the crooked corrupt cronies that is known as the Florida GOP from stealing the election from her.
