Fox News: Number One Winner In Iraq Debate Is...Joe Lieberman!
Fun times in Joe-land.
Fox News offers its choices for the winners and losers in last week's Senate debate, which led up to the GOP's successful effort to block a vote on the Reed-Levin Iraq withdrawal measure:
WINNERS:1. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.): Lieberman has proven to be a strong advocate of winning the war in Iraq. Early on in the faux filibuster, he noted that “the fanatics that run Iran, who exhort the tens of thousands to shout ‘Death to America’ ... don’t distinguish between Republicans and Democrats ... and we should have the common sense, let alone the sense of responsibility to our country, to come together to defend our nation against those who want to destroy us."
Maybe this, via Atrios, is the real reason for Fox's gratitude:
Lately, though, Lieberman has taken his alliance with GOP leaders up a notch. During the abortive debate on the defense authorization bill, he attended daily tactical sessions to help them plan their strategy for combatting anti-war amendments and their rhetorical points for use against the Democrats. And in a fitting symbolic twist, some of those meetings convened just down the hall from the office of Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, who essentially owes his 51-seat majority to Lieberman’s continued caucusing with the Democrats.

I'm not sure I get it (actually, I really do, but Fox doesn't seem to):
If it is about who won the debate on the war in Iraq, then why is Lieberman scoring points with Fox for talking about Iran?
The war is in Iraq, involving primarily Iraqis with a few assorted interlopers here and there.
This is of course very telling about the neocons and their lapdog Liarman: it has always been about Iran (and oil, and arrogance, and revenge), not about terrorism, or Saddam, or any of the other memes that the neocons and their allies promote in order to divert attention from the truth.
Iraq was simply a stepping stone.

The most dishonest man in the Senate wins approval from the most dishonest news program on television.
A marriage of delusion and deceit.
I think it's love.

But, how can he be a winner if he's the loser of a man who put the Loserman in Sore-Loserman?

Now that Saddam is out of the way only Iran can stand in the way of US domination of the Middle East (oil) or so the Bush gang and the neo cons think.
I'm sure Israel's security fits in there someplace too.

This isn't necessarily true, is it? Wasn't there a rule put in place at the start of this Congress that the Democrats would still retain their committee majority even if Leiberman defected to the GOP and refused to caucus with the Dems?
[EDIT 13:10 PST] I just did some more research on this...
Lieberman doesn't really need to caucus with the Democrats anymore. According to S.Res.27 and S.Res.28 past on 01/12/07, the committee assignments and structure have already been put in place for Democratic majority.
Even if Lieberman switched caucuses, it would still be a tied Senate at 49-49-2, and the S.Res.27/28 would still maintain a Democratic majority for committee assignments.
The only issue would be if Lieberman switched parties, and became GOP. However, the closest this scenario has come was back in 1953, when Robert Taft (R-OH) died, and the governor replaced him with a Democrat (I don't remember his name). Senator Wayne Morse (I-OR) switched BACK to the GOP in order to maintain the Republican majority in committee assignments only.

Lieberman did get everything he wanted this week: saw all the antiwar efforts stymied, got his own resolution passed 97-0, and then saw that used to pour salt in Democratic wounds.
Know anybody else who else had that good a week?

I'd like to know who first came up with the talking point "faux filibuster". This isn't the first time I've seen it.
