Flashback: Romney Denounced Dems Who Skipped Fox Debate As Cowards
Fun with flashbacks.
As you know, Mitt Romney is skipping the YouTube debate. His campaign claims that this is because of his heavy fundraising schedule, though it seems more likely that Romney's concerned that he'll get confronted by members of the public about his past YouTube flip-flops and excursions into social liberalism.
But just for the fun of it, let's check out what Romney had to say not long ago about Dems who skipped the Fox debate. Short version: He basically called them cowards.
Here's Romney back in April:
Romney accuses Dems of wimping out on debate sitesBOSTON -- Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney accused Democrats of cowardice in ducking presidential debates hosted by sponsors they dislike, saying that Republicans have proven more willing to appear in potentially hostile forums.
Romney said the May 3 debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library -- co-sponsored by The Politico and MSNBC -- proves that Republicans "have a lot more courage of our convictions," because they are willing to take questions from a moderator who earlier in his career worked as an aide to Democratic politicians. Democratic presidential candidates have refused to take part in two debates co-sponsored by Fox News, arguing that the network is slanted toward Republicans.
"Why is it that the Democrats wouldn't even go on Fox, but we Republicans are happy to sit there and have Chris Matthews of the Carter administration, former chief of staff to (ex-House speaker) Tip O'Neill?" asked Romney, in a Tuesday evening interview here with The Politico. "We're happy to sit there and have him dish questions to us, but they won't even go on Fox."
...
Romney's gibe at Matthews was unprompted, coming after a general question about his goals and expectations for the upcoming debate. Asked why he was willing to debate before the hard-charging talk show host, Romney said with a laugh that he was "not in any way shy of spending time with Chris Matthews."

with any luck we will have Romney as our opponent so i hope he keeps up the good work making himself look 'tough' to the working class stupid voters that dominate the republican party.

Romney flip-flops so much that next week he'll be...well, he'll probably have changed his opinion several times by then.

That Mitt is willing to spend time with Chris Matthews but not with a talking snowman doesn't speak very highly of Matthews's "hardball" tactics, eh?

Yeah, totally. F*** the working class.

Romney was for a debate before he was against a debate.
He's worried about the talking snowman because he knows that some enterprising voter is going to put up Seamus, the talking Irish Setter, to ask the candidates about what's being done about cruelty to animals.

beat me to it....I was going to say that.
Romney's position is completely consistent with his inconsistency.

This is so disappointing. My love of horrible puns has already inspired me to use a baseball glove puppet to ask a question. "Hey Mitt, its Mitt..." Oy.

Yeah, how about Keith Olbermann?
Anyway, so much for the "courage of his convictions." Coming from Mitt, I suppose it should be no surprise that he can't even be consistent on that.
I think the real line here is:
Mitt was for having the courage of his convictions before he was against it.
