Dick Gephardt Endorses Hillary Clinton

Hillary Clinton will pick up a key endorsement today from former presidential candidate and House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt, The Raw Story and Associated Press report. Gephardt, who won the Iowa caucus in 1988 but finished fourth in 2004, could bolster Hillary's support in the key caucus state. Gephardt's strong ties to many organized labor groups may also be helpful to the Clinton campaign.

Oh, I'm sorry. I can't imagine having slept through the excitement of a Gephardt endorsement.

From Ryan Lizza over at The New Republic's blog, The Plank

GEPHARDT TO ENDORSE HRC

Considering that Dick Gephardt is now a Washington lobbyist, and therefore can't even donate money to the Obama campaign, and considering that he passed up the opportunity to endorse John Edwards back in 2004, this press release just sent out by the Clinton campaign is hardly a surprise:

Hillary Clinton will receive a campaign endorsement from Former Congressman Richard Gephardt on a conference call today (Thursday, July 5, 2007) at 1:00 p.m. EDT.

In a so-called "change election," endorsements for Hillary from yesterday's DC politicians are not the worst thing for Obama and Edwards.

Does anyone, besides the David Brooks and David Broders of the world, care who Dick Gephardt endorses? Do you think labor is gonna take his word, over looking at her record? And her hiring people like Mark Penn?

1988 was ... 20 years ago? Iowa may be a bit behind the times, but please! In the 2004 caucus I attended, the Gephardt contingent vanished faster than the Wes Clark die hards and the Al Sharpton contrarians. Obama is a more convincing local/regional hero at this point than Gephardt.

File this one under "favorite son" Vilsack-reportage about Iowa by people who know next to nothing about Iowa.

NOT from tnr or any other liberal pretender mag:
Former senator, top Obama advisor and lobbiest Thomas A. Daschle says Obama is the greatest.

See how that works?

this will help her with the pro-war faction of the party, if she hasn't sewn up that bloc already. gephardt was singluarly valuable to bush in getting the dems on board for the iraq catastrophuck.

I got this tip very early this morning. I'm a neutral observer in the primary race, but that said, this is a good endorsement for Clinton, especially in key primary states and among primary voters. Gephardt's union support is real, as is his support for universal health care. It also makes a lot of sense if you look at what Gephardt and Clinton have in common. He's also been advising the campaign for a while.

Yeah .. they both despise Howard Dean. As, I believe, you stated on your web site, it was Gephardt's campaign who made that Dean/Bin Laden ad.
