Brownback Hammers Romney For Not Calling Abortion "Murder"

Uh oh -- more trouble for Mitt Romney on abortion. His latest gaffe: he apparently failed to call abortion "murder."

That embarrassing slip-up drew the following scorching attack from GOP Presidential rival and Senator Sam Brownback's campaign:

Mitt Romney Doesn't Believe Abortion is Murder

Rejects GOP Platform on Abortion -- A Human Life Amendment to the Constitution

ALEXANDRIA, Va-- Presidential candidate Mitt Romney refused to call abortion "murder" at an event in Laconia, New Hampshire last week, stating that murder "means different things to different people."

Romney instead stated abortion is the taking of a human life, that the unborn "is alive and human" at the point of conception, but that states should define their own abortion laws. "Mitt Romney's flip-flops on abortion throughout the years make more sense now," said Martin Gillespie, political director of Brownback for President...

"Romney says life begins at conception, but doesn't think abortion is murder and Romney says he's pro-life but he thinks states should be able to choose to allow abortion," Gillespie added. "Every time he tries to clarify, as he tried to do last week, it becomes more and more confusing."

In responding, Romney's spokesman -- incredibly, inexplicably -- refused to say that Romney had misspoke or that Romney does believe abortion is murder, thus compounding this gaffe to an unimaginable degree.

Brownback, of course, is one of approximately 18 GOP candidates who are each arguing that he is the only "real conservative" in the race. The GOPers debate tomorrow night.

I am surprised that Republican candidates do not claim that taking adult lives is NOT murder, since they are so fond of doing it especially in foreign countries. Thus they will criticize each other if they do aver that ONLY abortion is murder.

I enjoy seeing Republicans attack each other as much as the next person, but is there any evidence (besides the release from the Brownback campaign) that Romney was this hamhanded?

And I just love the last quote from the Brownback campaign:

Gillespie concluded, "Unlike Romney, Sam Brownback is a strong supporter of the Human Life Amendment and is genuinely pro-life."

"Genuinely prolife". Right. As long as "life" consists of that period of time between conception and birth.

The GOPers debate tomorrow night.
I can't wait. Who will be crowned King of the incredible pandering fascists? This and more on next week's edition of..."Voting Away Democracy!"

I love these guys. Next thing we know, Mitt will be getting slammed for not referring to homosexuals as "godless dogs," or all people of color and foreigners as "subhuman filth." I mean, what can Mitt possibly be thinking in not advocating concentration camps? What a loon.

Do these wingnuts understand the consequences of abortion as murder? By their definition, it would certainly have to be pre-meditated murder. That would require the execution of the mother, the father if he approved, the doctor, the nurse, the staff who made the appointment, the supplier of surgical instruments... it will be a freaking ironic bloodbath.

I also liked this Brownback blog attacking Romney for naming his dog "Marley". Folks, you can't make this stuff up.

Heh.

I was there, and it was entirely clear right then that Romney wanted to be anywhere else but in that camera-filled room having to answer that question.

This calling-out from Brownback six days after the fact tells us one of two things:

A) that he has a lame operation, which probably first became aware of this six days ago but took until today to get around to making hay of it, or

B) that he has a smart operation, which probably first became aware of this six days ago but waited until today, the day before the GOP debate in NH, to make hay of it.

It does tell us this: that none of the other hardline anti-abortion GOP campaigns had the guts or wits to bring this up.

Brownback is the better-looking Kucinich of the GOP: they says exactly what they think on their core issues with no considerations as to how that bluntness might ultimately affect their electoral prospects. Which, considering their prospects, is really the only rational route for them to take.

Hey everyone, follow the link in the above comment. It's a fun place to spam! It's also a bit scary to see Brownback's supporters...

Yeah, basically, anyone who helps facilitate the procedure in any meaningful way would be guilty of aiding and abetting murder, or conspiracy to commit murder. Perhaps, even doctors who recommended the procedure, or referred a patient to another doctor will be guilty of solicitation as well. What if she took a cab to a facility known to perform the procedure? Would the cabbie then be liable? Many doctors farm out their billing. What about their complicty? Hell, we're looking at a broad, far-reaching criminal enterprise here.

Even further, if the father didn't approve of the procedure, he could then file a wrongful death suit, an intentional infliction of emotional distress suit, etc., etc.

And even stupider yet, what if the woman took steps to have the procedure performed, but was interrupted in the process? Or what if she didn't take care of herself while she was pregnant? Would the eventually-born child then have a cause of action for assault and battery?

What if the woman was in prison while she was pregnant and she was injured by another prisoner, thereby somehow injuring the fetus. Would the prison be liable to the eventually-born child for negligence?

You're right; that place is a riot. I think I found my new favorite blog.

Lets expand some of the thoughts expressed earlier. If conception is the point where a bioplast / fetus is a human life with all the rights of a fully born person, then a woman who miscarries must pay for a mortuary to handle disposal of the remains. (I am sure not for free). Also, a funeral and a grave also be required, (also not for free). The government (social security) should pay death benefits ($750) as they do for a person who is actually born and then dies. Also, we can claim a tax deduction upon conception and do not have to wait till the actual birth since they are a full person upon conception. And the list goes on.

Oh you scalawags!

Seriously, thats the very first Right-Wing blog I've ever seen where they don't heavily sedate moderate the posts. Must mean that the site operator is off digging up dirt on Ron Paul.

Nothing like an internecine struggle for absolute purity.

To George Bush all those Muslims were pretty much the same just as all "Crusaders" are the same to bin Laden.

It is as much a mistake to think all Republicans are the same as to think Hillary is not really different than Mike Gravel.

My point isn't that all Republicans are the same. It's that some Republicans (and Democrats for that matter) are such ideologues, that anyone who even slightly departs from their point of view is considered an apostate.

"Nothing like an internecine struggle for absolute purity."

As Ayn Rand said so pointedly, "The bloodiest wars are always between members of the same sect or between brothers of the same creed."

How right she was.

Careful. My finely-tuned irony detector tells me that blog is almost certainly a (rather well-done) parody.
