Webb: Bush Is The One Refusing To Fund The Troops
Jim Webb just blasted out a statement on Bush's speech today. He spells out very simply why the GOP's argument that Congressional Dems are refusing to funding the troops is completely bogus:
“President Bush has threatened to veto the Iraq War supplemental bill, which is favored by a majority of Americans and a majority in Congress. This is just another example of the one-dimensional approach of this administration with respect to the resolution of this ill-conceived war.“In the Constitution, the Congress appropriates funds and writes the checks. We’re sending the President a bill that provides $100 billion for our troops to continue their mission in Iraq. Nobody is cutting money from the troops unless the President vetoes the bill Congress sends him.”
Between this and his high-profile attack on John McCain last week, Webb appears to be looking to raise his national profile. It has to be said that Webb really hits hard, but also artfully, when he wants to, which is more and more often of late.

Great statement by Webb especially:

It's not just what he says and how he says it. It's that he has street cred. It's all well and good for an Edwards or Obama or a Clinton to say this, but when Reagan's former Navy Secretary says it--As a Democrat!--it probably stings a lot more.
I'm biased in that I support Clark for pres., but imagine any Republican going against the former supreme allied commander of NATO on foreign policy. Sigh. I guess I'm just too cynical.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Bush is literally scared of Webb, on a number of different levels. You notice they don't seem to want to hit back, I think they know stylistically and street cred wise he'd wipe the floor with Bush.

The toads squatting in the White House would have to warp reality to find anything credible to smear Jim Webb with.
Darn right they are scared of Webb, when Bush got snippy with Senator Webb over his response to GW's question about his sons well being Webb told a reporter he should have "slugged" the man. I figure they are smart enough at Rove central to believe he just might get psychical over an affront to this honor. Hard to jail a Senator you know, they have a lot of immunity.

Webb speaks with clarity and conviction. When he speaks, I have hope.
