Report: Kucinich To Fight For Impeachment — Of Cheney
Dennis Kucincich has made his move: He's going for impeachment.
But it's not of President Bush — it's against VP Cheney.
In a move that could simultaneously please and puzzle the left-wing base he courts, Kucinich sent out a "Dear Colleague" letter announcing that he intends to introduce Articles of Impeachment against Cheney, The Washington Post reports. Here's the letter:
April 17, 2007Dear Colleague:
This week I intend to introduce Articles of Impeachment with respect to the conduct of Vice President Cheney. Please have your staff contact my office ... if you would like to receive a confidential copy of the document prior to its introduction in the House.
Sincerely,
Dennis J. KucinichMember of Congress
Kucinich's office declined comment to the Post about what the specific counts against Cheney would be and declined to share any other details about his plans. The paper also reports that he is delaying his move towards impeachment due to the Virginia Tech shootings. So maybe we'll get a better idea of what he's up to next week. We'll keep you posted.

So Cheney gets impeached...
Giuliani gets appointed...
We have to run against an incumbent in 2008?

Not Rudi, it will be the actor who get the nod.

I don't expect a lot of puzzlement. "Impeach Cheney First!" is a pretty common rallying cry.

It's good to have Kucinich and others out there, pushing the bounds of the conversation. I bet David Broder and Fred Hiatt at the Post are furious.

Kudos to Kucinich. And a great fundraising idea to boot.
I look forward to comments from the rest of the Democratic field on this. I bet Clinton, Obama, and Edwards all play it safe by carefully distancing themselves from any talk of impeachment in statements that nonetheless criticize Cheney. They'll twist themselves into pretzels trying to vilify Cheney while also letting him off the hook!

It will mean something when Articles of Impeachment come from the center and includes Bush, who, of course, ought to be just as includes as Cheney. By not including Bush, what is Kucinich trying to prove? That everything he touches is half-assed?

Maybe he's trying to get some media coverage. When's the last time TPM dedicated an entire post to him?

Dear Colleague Kuchinich:
Please also invite President George W. Bush to your impeachment party.
Sincerely,
Tom

He's trying to prevent a Cheney presidency. If you get rid of Bush first god help us. We're all lucky Agnew resigned before Nixon.

I understand the half-assed logic, but both should be on if either is on. What else is the point. Nixon's impeachment would have certainly slowed down were Agnew present.
It's a conundrum: Kucinich is kind of a clown, no matter how good his politics. Recall his deserved rank of third in all-time worst American mayors; he gives Don Quixote a bad name; the ideal Democratic nominee - if your're a Republican.
The Impeachment Article in the Constitution was designed especially for such unfit-for-office as Bush and Cheney. That they deserve impeachment is beyond dispute to anyone sane at this point. You're singing to the choir here on that one. But why beat up on a Dem who has a shot at winning in '08 if it harms our chances? It won't happen unless half the elected Repubs go along. That is not likely, but who knows what awful stuff will emerge this year? I'm against anything that jeapardizes our shot in '08. If impeachment is the way, then so be it; if not, then so be it.

Who's beating up on which Dem?

Ah, yes. The end justifies the means.
I'm for truth and justice. And I think a Cheney impeachment would deliver a long overdue measure of justice. And I would be thrilled if one of the front runners supported impeachment.
But I think they'll choose their own hide over truth and justice. I think they'll do the wrong thing for the wrong reason. I think they'll give Cheney a pass because they think it's the most politically expedient position in the general election. And I think that's sad.
When winning is all we care about, we're no better than the Republicans.

Love your lust for moral superiority, lj269. Won't wash here. I, too, would love to see Cheney (oh, and Bush, too) get their commupance. Who among the party wouldn't? Who? Who? You sound like an old Nader holdover. Look at what that moral superiority got us. As if the Dems are anything nearly as bad as the Republicans. I just love the wing of the party that thinks losing is so virtuous. Quite a record. Really just a form of narcissism.

Dick Cheney surely does deserve to be impeached (not to mention, sent to the Hague for a war crimes trial).
So I am all in favor, and speaking as a person unfamiliar with Kucinich, I will try to learn a bit more.
