New DCCC Ad Rips Rep. Heather Wilson
The DCCC is going up on the air with a second radio ad targeting New Mexico GOP Rep. Heather Wilson for her role in the Attorney Purge. You can listen to it here.
Transcript:
In Washington Alberto Gonzales, the Attorney General of the United States, is testifying under oath about his role in the firing of U.S. Attorneys. But here in New Mexico, no one is getting the truth about Heather Wilson’s involvement in the scandal.
Wilson said a constituent’s complaint led her to call Republican U.S. Attorney David Iglesias about an ongoing federal corruption investigation.
But Heather Wilson won’t identify the constituent … she still refuses to release her phone records … and many important questions remain unanswered.
In Washington Attorney General Gonzales is being asked to tell the truth …
Isn’t it time we asked Heather Wilson to tell the truth in New Mexico?
Check the facts at www dot Heather Wilson watch dot com.
The ad reflects the belief among Dem strategists that -- contrary to some pundits who think corruption has run its course as a potent political issue -- the Attorney Purge has created a political environment in which corruption could indeed drive voters in 2008, just as it did in 2006.
The ad started running this morning during drive time in Albuquerque and will run through Tuesday -- that is, the day Alberto Gonzales is scheduled to testify. The earlier ad is here.

Let us not forget that she previously admitted to abusing her authority as a state official to "disappear" a file regarding allegations of impropriety by her husband. Of course, her admission came after flatly denying her involvement at least once and possibly more more than once.
What does it take for Congress to take up ethics charges against members that clearly deserve it? Though the previous matters regarding her husband's file occured prior to her tenure in Congress, they do establish a history of crossing ethical boundaries and then lying to cover it up. Seen through the lens of her history, it is hard to see her behavior in the u.s. attorney matter as a misunderstanding rather than the most recent event in a pattern of unethical behavior.

Is Heather Wilson going to be investigated??
I had heard that she wasn't because of a non-proliferation agreement with the House Ethics Committee where no one would be investigated form either side.
No good having an Ethics Committee if both sides decide not to file charges. That's not doing the publics business. That relys on the US Attorneys to do investigations and they only work for one side. Crank it up and get that committee going.

So glad the DCCC is airing radio ads challenging Repubs! However, the voice and delivery in this ad sound like a Repub ad. DCCC needs a more credible voice.

i dont care what the wingnuts say, this is NOT like Democratic senotors wanting John Bolton to go for reasons other than performance.
or miguel estrada.
I wouldnt be surprised if the repubs got ahold of Iglesias' credit report by way of identity theft to see if there was some reason they could get him to go away...
um, nevermind, what was i saying?

Greg,
I think it is a very savvy move on the part of the DCCC to identify and to go after as many of the Republican Party's elected and appointed officials as possible.
There is an extreme anger, frustration and disappointment on the parts of all voters when it comes to the current level of political corruption. If the Democratic party can parade a list of criminals and criminal behavior (faces, names, crimes and ethical lapses) that extends from the Oval Office all the way down to the inner sanctums of the DOJ, the Congress and the Pentagon, it will firmly place in the mind of the average voter, Democratic, Republican and Independent alike, the idea that the Republican Party has become, in fact, a party of organized crime. The participation of elected members of Congress in the attorney purge and the concurrent "loss" of the RNC emails is only the latest example.
There should be no concessions made between the Democratic Party and the current administration at any level of politics where the discovery of truth is concerned. It is time to go to the mat. The promise to clean up American politics, end the war and restore the economic and legal rights of U.S. citizens is the best possible story the Democratic party could tell in 2008.

Heather won reelection in a very close race; less than 2K votes decided the issue IIRC. She would have lost if the Democratic Party of NM had put forth a competitive candidate. If they give us Patsy again as a choice, Heather could perjure herself on national TV and still win her seat in '08.
