Election Central Sunday Roundup
Report: Republicans Worried About Ethics Investigations
The Washington Post reports Republicans are worried that the recent resignations of Reps. John Doolittle (R-CA) and Rick Renzi (R-AZ) from their top committee posts, as well as other ongoing investigations, could revive corruption as an issue against them in the coming election cycle, even with them in a weakened minority already. "Everybody's kind of a little bit numb," said Rep. Jack Kingston (R-GA). "There's this, 'What else can happen now?' feeling going around here."
Report: Gore Associates Assembling Campaign Team — Just In Case
The Sunday Telegraph reports that former associates of Al Gore are assembling a campaign team to be ready to go just in case the former Vice President and 200 popular vote winner decides to run later in the year. "He hasn't asked them to do this, but nor has he told them not to," said one source who said he was approached about joining up.
New Hampshire Drops Primary/Tourism Promotion
The Boston Globe reports that New Hampshire has dropped a program to promote tourism by telling potential visitors that the state is a great place to meet Presidential candidates — out of worries that such a promotion would weaken the state's moral authority to keep their first-in-the-nation primary status. "This is not what the primary is all about," said New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner. "Other people have said it's for the money and that's why we have it, and we've always defended it. We've had it for more than half a century, but it's not for the money."
Obama Campaign Relying On Michelle For Outreach To Women
The Chicago Tribune that the Barack Obama campaign is looking to his wife Michelle, and her image as a professional, working mother to help reach out to women voters who might otherwise lean towards Hillary Clinton. "There's something about her that projects such honesty and strength," Obama recently said of his wife. "It's what makes her such an unbelievable professional, and partner, and mother, and wife."
Nevada Republicans Move Up Caucus To Coincide With Dems
The Associated Press reports that Nevada Republicans have agreed to hold their caucus at the same time as Democrats, in between the Iowa caucus and the New Hampshire primary. State Republicans viewed the move as being necessary to maintain organizational parity with the Democrats, and thus boost the GOP nominee's chances of carrying the swing state in the general election.
Rudy Backing Off From Pro-Immigration Rhetoric
The New York Times notes that Rudy Giuliani has been backing away from past support for immigration. While as Mayor he supported public schooling for the children of illegal immigrants, and other pro-immigrant policies he is now toning down or even backing away from previous stances. "First thing is, there should be no amnesty," he recently told an Iowa reporter, for example.
Democrats Target Sam Graves
The Washington Post reports that Democrats are seeking to make four-term Congressman Sam Graves (R-MO) a top target. Though re-elected by strong margins in his last three races, his district voted narrowly for Senator Claire McCaskill over then-incumbent Republican Jim Talent last year. Democrats believe they have convinced outgoing Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes to challenge Graves, and her high name recognition will make it a real race.

Nice.
We get an intelligent piece on whether Gore will step up to the plate and run or not, and all Carville can say is:
And we wonder why Maureen Dowd gets away with ranting about $400 haircuts? Thanks, James.

That quote sounds to me like Carville is half endorsing Gore. BTW check out Michelle Obama if you
