Edwards Calls On Wolfowitz To Step Down As Head Of World Bank
John Edwards has just called for Paul Wolfowitz to resign over the revelations involving Wolfowitz and his girlfriend, a World Bank employee. Key quote from Edwards' statement:
"Unfortunately, Wolfowitz's tenure at the World Bank has been marked by some of the failures as his term managing the war in Iraq -- cronyism and rhetoric that does not match reality -- and now serious questions of financial integrity that have alarmed our allies.
"America's ability to lead in the fight against global poverty is undermined with Paul Wolfowitz at the helm of the World Bank. He should resign. We have to restore America's credibility and moral leadership in order to convincingly make the case for global anti-poverty investments that are both strategically smart and morally correct."

Good for Edwards.
Once again he is leading.

Sorry, but the easiest thing in the world to do to attract attention and get free media is to call for someone to resign. It's not leadership; it's being a walking cliche.

Edwards has freed himself from the political packaging he permitted himself to be encumbered by in '04, whereas Obama is newly wrapped and Clinton will never leave that cocoon. I personally think it may have something to do with Edwards revisiting the daily consideration of life and death via his wife. When one thinks through such a clear lens, pussy footing isn't in the cards. He's not afraid to offend. How delightful.

On balance, it's fine with me to kick Wolfowitz while he's down, but Edwards should probably focus on things he can do and achieve, rather than wasting his time on things like the raise Wolfowitz gave to his girlfriend at the World Bank. It's not like it's going to make a bit of difference what Democratic candidate for President John Edwards says on the matter. Pres. Bush is the decider, remember?
Maybe he can take it day-by-day and call on one member of the Bush admin to resign each day. Monday could be Condi day, Tuesday is Cheney Day, Weds. is Gonzo Day, etc. If there's not enough time, he could just declare Thursday Dept. of Homeland Security Day and request all of the employees there to resign.

Isn't that the Howard Dean approach? Didn't work out so well the first time around, as I recall...
