Tommy Thompson To Declare Candidacy

GOP underdog Tommy Thompson is on the verge of declaring that, yes, he's running for President, CNN says. His "official" announcement isn't set to happen until early April, but Thompson is going on CNN's The Situation Room tomorrow at 4 p.m. to unofficially announce that he'll soon be officially announcing -- which is effectively an announcement. Got that? Like a whole line of other GOP candidates, Thompson is touting himself as the "only true reliable conservative" in the field. But even in his case the GOP base could find a hint of apostasy: As Governor of Wisconsin, he was a strong supporter of the embryonic stem-cell research being done at the state university.

Is there rally a groundswell of ratwing support for this clown? Probably the only support this nonentity will get will come from people who think he's FRED Thompson.

AP, 3/2/04:

One in 10 children dies before turning a year old in an Iraqi health care system in disarray after years of neglect, last year's war and the looting that followed it. The infant mortality rate is comparable to those of the poorest countries in Africa.
U.S. and Iraqi health officials who toured children's health facilities in recent days say simple measures, including basic hygiene, can help cut that rate in half within two years. At the end of the visit, Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said conditions would improve "if they just washed their hands and cleaned the crap off the walls."

If Tommy Thompson would just clean the sh!t from between his ears he wouldn't be such an @sshole.
