Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco Won't Run For Reelection
Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco is set to announce this evening that she won't be seeking reelection, according to local WAFB 9 News. Blanco, who was elected in November 2003, becoming the first woman to ever hold the office, had been saying she'd run as late as last week, telling reporters: "My plan is to continue running." Blanco's toughest challenger was seen to be Rep. Bobby Jindal.

Doesn't Louisiana have a GOP USA?
Hasn't one elected Dem official already been indicted there?
Jefferson, claims he was set up despite the 'cold cash' in the fridge.
Whereas, before we could assume he was caught red handed, after the latest AG purge, that assumption needs to be revisted and reassesed with the new justice scandal showing a definite pattern of politicization of the system, along with a 7:1 ratio of dems vs. GOP elected officials being indicted.

John Breaux has a good shot at beating Jindal. The question now is -- will he run? I hope he does.

The problem is Jefferson hasn't been forth-coming on the issue other than his "conspiracy theory" comments. It was strange to hear his Democratic opponont in the last election brush off the incident by saying that "at least our corruption is out in the open in La". That was bizarre -- in fact LA politics is bizarre.
He is vulnerable to an indictment and potential scandal. I'm suprised Pelosi hasn't dealt with the issue already. It's a ticking time-bomb.

Jefferson's case is being investigated by the US Attorney of Northern Virginia. The US Attorney here in New Orleans, Jim Letten, is a career federal prosecutor.

What's the deal with Blanco? Is she out of her league? This morning on NPR I heard her "The Road Home" program for Katrina rebuilding grants had signed up only something like 3500 out of 115,000 qualified homeowners. If that's true it doesn't sound good at all. Anybody have more details on what went wrong with her?
