Arlen Specter To Run Again In 2010 -- At 80 Years Old
Moderate GOP Senator Arlen Specter is running for a sixth term in 2010 -- despite the fact that he'll be 80 years old at the time, The Hill reports.
Specter, who narrowly survived a primary challenge from the right in 2004 from Pat Toomey, the President of the Club for Growth, is announcing his reelection bid early as a “preemptive move” to raise big bucks early and scare off potential challengers, says Pennsylvania pollster and analyst Terry Madonna. “He’s obviously trying to not set off a scramble within his own party,” Madonna tells the paper. “He’s sending a message to conservatives who want to do battle with him.”

Mr. Kleefeld, when are people like you going to wake up and smell the coffee about "moderate Republicans" like Arlen Spector? It's bad enough we have to hear this drivel from the corporate media.
Actions speak louder than words. If I speak with a false French accent, that doesn't make me French. If Arlen Spector pays lip service to moderation but always toes the Bush line at crunch time, that doesn't make him a moderate.
Nor does it make sense to refer to Republicans as the "GOP". That's just a way to take the focus off what's most repulsive about them--the fact that they're Republicans, the party of Richard Nixon, George W. Bush, and Dick Cheney. The only reason to refer to them as "GOP" is if space is needed in a headline. In the body of a story, it's just pure laziness.
"Hypocritical Republican Senator Arlen Spector" would have been a much more accurate way to begin your post.

LOL Ron you sound like you're in full campaign mode. Maybe "self proclaimed moderate" would be more appropriate.
Anybody have an idea who PA Dems want to put up against him? I'm not gonna miss Arlen anymore than I'd miss a hole in the head but it would have been fun to have Santorum to kick around again in another election.
