Obama To Launch Campaign In Lincoln's Hometown
Barack Obama will announce his campaign in Abraham Lincoln's hometown of Springfield, Illinois, the Associated Press reports. The move could serve as a reminder that Lincoln managed to win the Presidency despite a relative lack of experience: He'd only served a single term in Congress (and some time in the State Legislature) before getting elected President and, of course, leading the country through the Civil War. Obama, too, has been dogged by doubts about whether his two years in the Senate qualifies him to be President, and perhaps hopes the history of fellow Illinois pol Lincoln will assauge such doubts.

Edwards seems to be portraying himself as the next MLK, Jr. Now Obama wants to portray himself as the next Lincoln--quite ironic that Lincoln was president during an extreme partisanship that Obama would have tried to be against.
Who will Clinton try to immitate?
I think I'm much more interested in the GOP race where they are racing to see who can become the most extreme base panderer.

More to the point, Springfield is Homer Simpson's hometown.
Will Obama distance himself from Simpson's failed 2004 bid for the White House? Or will he borrow a plank or two from Homer's innovative platform? ("Children are the future. That's why they must be stopped ...")

("Children are the future. That's why they must be stopped ...") That worked pretty well for Nixon. Twice as a matter of fact.
BTW Springfield IL can't be where the Simpson's live. It's the capitol of Illinois while there is a Capitol City on the Simpsons.
