New Hunter Ad In Iowa And New Hampshire Promotes Border Fence
Hardcore conservative Duncan Hunter, of all people, has just become the first candidate to go up on the air in New Hampshire and Iowa — though the size of the buy is unknown. The Boston Globe reports that Hunter's "Peace Through Strength" PAC — yes, that's really its name — began airing an ad yesterday in the two states promoting a fence along the Mexican border. "Let's make sure Homeland Security builds the border fence," Hunter says. "It works, and it's the law." No hard info is yet available about the size of the buy from his PAC, but the Globe says it's running in the two states, providing little more detail beyond the fact that it's up on a local station in Manchester. Nonetheless, it's worth a watch.

The guy doesn't exactly move like Fred Astaire, does he?
Ol' Duncan's going nowhere fast but at least he can tell his grandkids he won an Arizona (?) Straw Poll.

For some reason, your comment reminded me of this minor event in history. I have no idea where this immigration thing is going, but I do know there is a lot of anti-immigration (anti-immigrant, really) sentiment out there in some circles. I sometimes think we, the "sensible" ones, take the current stability and sensibility of people for granted, that we really aren't all that far away -- a couple of terror attacks, maybe some kind of lurid crime committed by an illegal immigrant -- from our society embracing something ugly and alien to our stated values. For me, one of the bellwethers of that is the immigration discussion. I'm not that alarmed about it yet, but it is growing in importance.

Peter Roskam IL-06, attacked Tammy Duckworth almost entirely on immigration. She supported McCain's Senate bill. He supported Sensenbrenner's ethnic cleansing bill. He won by 1.8%.
