Hagel To Introduce Dems' Anti-Escalation Resolution
Senator Chuck Hagel will introduce the Democrats' anti-escalation resolution, giving the measure a bipartisan stamp, today's New York Times reports. Hagel has been in talks with Dem Senators Joe Biden and Carl Levin over the wording of the resolution, and the three could introduce the measure as early as today.
Meanwhile, the behind-the-scenes politics in the Senate are getting more and more intense around the escalation question. GOP Senators who favor Bush's escalation are working behind the scenes to come up with an alternative resolution in hopes of peeling away GOPers who are facing reelection in 2008 and are inclined to support the Democratic measure. That task will become more difficult, however, now that the Dem resolution is being co-introduced by a GOPer, giving Republicans the bipartisan cover they need to get behind it.

I'm not sure where to place this request, as I am new to this part of the site. Where do you offer the results on Impeachment polling?
Thanks, Ticia

Well I suppose Lieberman should support this now b/c it is bi-partisan. That is his favorite word and now that the anti-escalation bill has Bi-fucking-partisan support I assume he will fall in line. No?

I wonder if Brownback will support it.
Actually, I think the real lodestar here is Warner; how far he moves from the White House is an indication of how limited their support will be. If Warner were to sign on to a bi0partisan resolution, it might become more than a simple statement -- that might mean there would be support to take more serious action on funding.

Just called Warner's office. (202) 224-2023. The receptionist immediately put me on hold for awhile and then when I asked his position said he'll release a statement on the anti-escalation resolution when he's ready on his website. I urged
her to tell him we need to get out. The only way can "win" is to put a million troops we don't have in and do to Iraq what Russia's done to Chechya. I guaranteed her if we tried such barbaric actions there'd be riots in the streets here at home. It's much the same msg I emailed Durbin last night. He gets it, I wonder if Warner will.

I think having Hagel introduce this is great news. He's been a common-sense GOP voice on the war for awhile now. What a contrast with McCain!
