Yet Another Quote of the Day: Huckabee Says to Watch Out for YouTube!

"When people say it's all going to be settled by March or April, who says? George Allen was the hottest brand going until he made a little speech that got on YouTube. Now he's gone."
— Mike Huckabee, quoted by the Associated Press, in what may be the first public comments about the impact of the "Macaca" scandal by a potential GOP Presidential candidate.

God, it feels great when one Republican twists the knife into another, and when the victim is a douchebag like Allen, it fells stupendous.

I will gladly give out my real contact info over the web if it could lead to thousands and millions of poeple joining me in a mass grassroots campaign to request/demqand that the media GIVE US BETTER PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COVERAGE. Do we want another good candidate eliminated in another 'Dean Scream' type of episode perpetrated by the lemming-pack media.

Better reporting would include: no horse-race only articles; every story using telephone poll numbers would also include cautions that telephone polls are likely much more unreliable than the stated plus/minus confidence levels, because of answering machines, cell phones, highrates of refusal to participate, etc.; editors firing journalists who form a pack; no articles sliming a candidate on "un-named sources;" and any number of other high-ethic-level journalistic practices to ensure that VOTERS CHOOSE THE CANDIDATES, NOT ELITE JOURNALISTS.

I have a good record of organizing in CA and OR, I am serious, I'm not highly tech-ie so I may not have my member settings set for contact and I may not be able to quickly find where to go to change that, but please, if you resonate to this idea, start writing your own letters on this theme to the editor of your local rags and emailing to feedback@ap.org, start talking to all your friends and everyone you meet whether at the church, at the auto mechanic's or at the supermarket! Let's Take Back OUR political processs!

Well feather you're asking a lot of old leopards to change their spots. All I can say is reward good behavior and punish the bad. Keep writing them and hold their feet to the fire. I found out here in IL-06 the newspaper coverage was pretty good this year. Except for one instance where the Daily Herald and local ABC affiliate released a two week old poll from a time Duckworth was off TV before the election that showed her down about 5 points. That poll was a real outlier and was stale to boot.

But for the most part they stuck to the issues and got the candidates' positions more or less correct. Local TV News which relies on visuals was terrible. No factchecking or clarification of the commercials they made big bucks off of in between the silly stuff they call news. Granted when there's 22 minutes per half hour broadcast and dozens of candidates for dozens of offices it's hard for them to do more than remind people there's an election coming up and here's where you could have shaken a candidate's hand today if you'd been there. Because most political commercials are so negative I suspect news producers don't want to do even that much. Seeing as so many people, especially the elderly still get their news from local TV and those faces they've come to know and trust it behooves us to work on them.
