So now we got 2 of them running with the same strategy of personally meeting every voter: Edwards and Obama.
It reminds me of a photo on the front page of the NY Times on the day of the '92 New Hampshire primary. Its in a coffee shop or diner and Bill Clinton has this earnest expression, looking at an older gentleman who is looking in his coffee cup, like he's decided not to vote for Clinton but here he is face to face with the candidate.

Barack was apparently called by his nickname Barry earlier in life. Barry Obama?
Dick also always seems to work well as the first name of a politician. Maybe Dick Obama?

Based on his book Dreams of My Father, this is what his maternal grandparents called him. I got the impression that this was a way of Americanizing his ethnic name and basically represents a cultural disconnect on their part. In other words it is similiar to folks changing the name Goldstein to Gold.
