Iowans Wonder, Who Is Sam Brownback?
Presidential hopeful Sam Brownback may have been seeking to establish his conservative credentials on his first trip to Iowa yesterday, but he found himself needing to establish something far more fundamental with Iowans: His identity. The Kansas City Star reports that Brownback appeared before the local Iowa media only to be asked by a reporter how he spelled his name. (Imagine the same being asked of John McCain.) “OK. I’m Sam Brownback," the Kansas Senator replied. "That’s B-R-O-W-N-B …” Cedar Rapids waitress Linda Rydak offered the paper a succinct commentary on Brownback's name recognition in her state: “I’d be lying if I told you that I’ve ever heard of Sam Brownback."

The theocons would be better off with Huckabee or with Santorum (had he been re-elected). Brownback makes Vilsack look like the embodiment of charisma. From my perspective as firm supporter of the separation of church snd state, I'd like to see Rep.-Elect Michelle Bachman (R-MN)or Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO) run to reveal these Christianists for the radicals they are.
Then again, they'd make the other GOPers look sane by comparison.

I would love to see Pelosi and the Rules committee fast-track Christianist legislation to the House floor just to make Republicans obliged to either own their crazy or admit that they never believed in it in the first place.

Ever since the Duke Cunningham story broke following a reporter's investigation into his housing situation, real estate questions and land deals have become standard starting points for journalists.
Brownback owns a condo in a building just across from the Supreme Court in DC. His building has five units. Three of the occupants are suspect:
Two units are owned by Richard Simmons, a religious figure who runs "Men for Nations." Simmons used to be a VP under James Dobson's Focus on the Family until the two had a falling out. Simmons also oversees a Congressional prayer organization which claims Brownback as a member -- and several other Members who have nothing to do with the organization: http://congressionalprayer.com/home.html
Another unit is owned by "From the Father with Love" with a registered address of 8122 Datapoint Drive #1000 in Dallas. Several interesting things about this unit. Tom DeLay's ARMPAC called this unit "home" at one time. The current owner's Dallas address turns out to be the offices of Dr. James Leininger, conservative GOP donor, who had a litany of pet issues - including controlling the content of textbooks, school voucher advocate. He's got millions, and not afraid to spend it on the culture wars. An interesting articke: http://www.texscience.org/reform/leininger.htm.
There may be some accuracy in juding people by the company they keep, or whom they live with. Particularly when it relates to a small 5-unit condo building, across from the Supreme Court.

How can anyone expect the GOP to take the Constitution into account when legislating?!
