Poll: Giuliani Is Most Popular Political Figure In America — And Obama's Rising, Too

There are worse positions to be in when contemplating a run for President than the one Rudy Giuliani finds himself in: It just so happens that he is the most popular political figure in America, a new Quinnipiac Poll out today finds. His second-place rival? Barack Obama. The survey asked voters to rate their feelings about different national political figures on a scale of 0 to 100, with the released figures giving the average score for each politician. Some key results:

Rudy Giuliani: An average popularity rating of 64.2, with only 9% not knowing enough to form an opinion.

Barack Obama: 58.8, though a whopping 41% of Americans are not yet even able to form an opinion about him.

John McCain: 57.7, with 12% unable to form an opinion.

Condoleeza Rice: 56.1, with 7% unable to form an opinion.

Bill Clinton: 55.8, with a mere 1% unable to form an opinion.

And guess who came in dead last out of the 20 politicians tested?
John Kerry: 39.6, with 5% having no opinion.

If the 9/11 families have their way there will be a new, thorough investigation of 9/11. I have a feeling that some stuff may come out about WTC 7 that might not reflect well on Guliani. Also I bet a lot of those who gave him high marks probably aren't aware of his philandering.

These polls are meaningless. Very few people outside NY City have a clear idea who Guiliani is or what he stands for.

Polls in NY state show Hillary comfortably beating Guiliani in 2008.

People in the rest of the country have no clue about Guiliani's serial adultery, ties to Bernie Kerik or his positions on the issues.

If he runs his primary opponents will make sure the voters find out the unsavory details about his personal life as well as his pro choice, pro gun control, pro gay rights views. After that his numbers will melt like ice cream.

Do they show the breakdown by party?

Presumably these reflect bipartisan positive feelings, but most/all of their support from one side will evaporate if they win the primaries (although Giuliani may lose about equal amounts of support from both sides).

Kerry is in the unfortunate position of being disliked bipartisanly by both those who believed the Swift Boaters and those who couldn't believe he let the Swift Boaters do to him what they did.

Barack has a huge upside, given that the others listed above are pretty much tapped out, and he still has 41% of the country that he can impress.

It's alright - Kerry can console himself with the knowledge that a) it would have fared even worse if the really, really dumb American soldiers fighting in Iraq had had a vote and b) that he's still the 20th most popular figure in America....yeah right.
