Dems Bailing On Kerry As He Cancels Campaign Appearances
Dems are bailing on John Kerry after his botched Iraq joke. A quick wrap-up:
* Tennessee Senate candidate Harold Ford, Jr.: "Whatever the intent, Senator Kerry was wrong to say what he said."* Montana Senate candidate Jon Tester: "Senator Kerry's remarks were poorly worded and just plain stupid. He owes our troops and their families an apology."
* Maryland Senate candidate Ben Cardin: "I'm sorry he did what he did. But I think the issue ... we want to make sure it doesn't confuse the subject of the war in Iraq."
Meanwhile, Kerry has canceled events with Dem House candidates Bruce Braley in Iowa and Tim Walz in Minnesota, and Dem Senate candidate Bob Casey in Pennsylvania.

I'm sorry that none of these candidates mentioned that over 100 of these troops died last month because of lies Bush told.
That there has yet to be any Conrgessional investigation of the abuses by Halliburton or other contractors in Iraq.
This is where the focus should be. Republicans are concerned about the troops?
Where's the evidence?

That's good. Kerry should keep his head down until after we've won back both houses next week. After we win win win, then he and our candidates can take those strong principled stands we all know they're all thinking about but don't talk about or do anything about. (Remember the Progressive Motto: Words Not Deeds!)
Once this blows over our team will bring Kerry back out for more of his well known decisive principled stands on things like, well, you know. Stuff.

Kerry had a good run in 2004. But '08? No more. I wish he had donated half of that $8 million cash-on-hand to the Democratic party and its committees because he's not going anywhere in 2008. It's over for Kerry as a viable presidential nominee.

That may be true, but he still worked harder raising money for Dem candidates than pretty much anyone else in 2006. We'll owe him a big debt of gratitude if we take back the House and/or Senate, regardless of this non-story.

These guys really could have given better quotes.
How about, "That was a stupid thing to say, but he obviously didn't mean it the way it came out. The GOP is just trying to change the subject from the 103 brave American soldiers who died in Iraq this month. The Republicans have no plan other than more of the same."
Ford is going to be tied to Kerry as his campaign co-chair, so he should fight back since he's just going to get tarred for it either way.

Ford , Tester , Cardin are doing the right thing. Kerry's gaffe will cost a few hundred seats in districts all over the country. There'll be a few republicans who will now get in by that margin and so be it , we'll still take the house . Added up across any one of those senate election elections , however , those lost votes could cost us that one seat which would have made Harry Reid majority leader. Their job is to win that seat not defend Kerry.
I enjoyed Kerry's immediate response that he was being criticized by a group of home front heroes but politics isn't about enjoyment (or defending your own reputation) it's about making your case in no more than three easy-to -remember sentences . Something like " save social security first ". i.e. what Clinton would have said .

I'm sorry I sent money to Harold Ford and Jon Tester. Obviously, Tester isn't really ahead in MT and Ford is losing by double digits. If they can't stand up to the Republicans on this, I fear that if they get into the Senate, they'll be Lieberman-style Democrats.
