OH-18: Rove Emerging As Pinch-Hitter For Pols Spooked By Foleygate

Karl Rove is emerging as the go-to guy to replace all the featured guests who are cancelling fundraising and political appearances because of Foleygate. The Associated Press reports today that Rove is the new featured host of a Washington fundraiser for Ohio House candidate Joy Padgett that was supposed to be headlined by Hastert until he pulled out a few days ago. As Election Central noted earlier today, Rove is also rushing in to host a political event for Tom Reynolds — also badly damaged by Foleygate — after John McCain bailed on the event. The GOP scandals are so bad that Rove is the only one left candidates will allow themselves to be seen with.

Rove can do this after getting a free pass over his assistant's resignation for her repeated WH contacts with Jack Abramoff...the White House denies Abramoff is even known all that well to staff...Rove's assistant resigns after hundreds of contacts are revealed and nary a whimper from the press...now Rove's on the rubber chicken circuit...

Mrs P reporting in.

As I have mentioned here before, I signed up for various Republican campaigns incuding Rick Santorum's. I even have my very own GOP website.

The invitations to my GOP Election Day house party were returned to me as "undeliverable".

I still have not received my invitation to Marc's GOP house party in Medford even though I requested it hours ago.

I tried to volunteer to make phone calls for Rick Santorum's campaign during the week before Election Day.

I am hoping like hell that these problems are caused by software malfunctions and not because I have been identified as a Democrat.

Anyone have any suggestions for my photo album on my very own GOP website? I already have a map of the North of the Russian Federation marked for nuclear test sites with the caption "Soviet Nuclear Test Sites".

My photo of Mark Foley with five male interns and one female intern was rejected so it's not like I can post just anything.

If you want to help me with my efforts to help the GOP, sign up as a member of my GOP team or be a GOP volunteer.

Again, everyone in the TPM Cafe is invited to my GOP Election Day house party. Bring your cellphone so we can get out the vote!

What I can't figure out is why the GOP wants someone like me throwing GOP house parties. I've been a Democrat for 36 years, for pete's sake.

I am considering becoming a Republican so I can advocate for the criminalization of gay sex. That ought to get those Log Cabin Republicans going!

C9, I think it is good news that Rove has to hit the dinner circuit. The more time he has to spend in the field, the less time he has to put out fires.

IIIRC, you could buy tickets to dinner with Karl Rove in New Hamphsire for $100. At the time, I commented here that I would pay $100 to hear Rove speak.

I still would lay out the $100. I would be taking up a seat that might otherwise go to a Repubican who might e inspired to contribute a lot more than $100 to the Republican candidate.

Those dinners are usually closed to the press. If I attended one, I could report back here to the TPM Cafe as to what Karl tells the base when he is campaigning hard.

Besides, I'm generally pretty nosy so I'd like to know if Karl Rove is a good speaker and how he comes across at these functions.

I probably am out of luck as far as going to one of these Rove dinners. I live in Peter King's district which is pretty safe, unfortunately.

Rove replacing Hastert is an improvement? I guess some might think John Gotti replacing Al Capone was also an improvement.

Your GOP website is hilarious!

Dem candidates should just campaign against Rove the same way they would campaign against Hastert. Rove is part and parcel of the GOP culture of corruption. His assistant was formerly Jack Abramoff's assistant and had to resign for her improper activities while working for Rove.

He also leaked the name of an undercover CIA agent, which was a bad act regardless of whether he was indicted for it or who else did it as well. Bush said he would fire anyone who leaked, but Rove is still working in the White House. Why is that? GOP culture of corruption.

Plus, Rove got a lot of benefits (tickets, dinners) and did stuff for Abramoff as well.

Delicious! Rove is not only ON the rubber chicken circuit.....take a look at him and his history. He IS a rubber chicken. Cluck cluck.

It's still surprising that "Bush's brain" would spend valuable time so close to an important election out on the campaign trail. Does he think he can single handedly reverse Republican losses? Maybe he just needs some mental health time away from the House of Depression at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Well THIS development will set the sun afire in regards to the Democratic Base.
