OH-01: NRCC Ad Says Dem Cranley Favors Tasering Kids!
This is a good one. The NRCC has a new ad up attacking Dem House candidate John Cranley for...being in favor of tasering kids! It's true: The ad slams Cranley -- who's challenging incumbent GOP Rep. Steve Chabot -- for siding with the Cincinnati police department when a local pol pushed to change PD policy to make it illegal to taser kids under 11. Cranley opposed the change, saying that in the rare cases a young kid (wielding a knife, for example) needs to be subdued it's better to taser him then shoot him. Hence the NRCC ad accusing Cranley of wanting to shock this 7-year-old girl in pigtails. Check out our screen grab below; see the full ad after the jump.
Here's the ad:
The Cincinnati Inquirer beats up on the ad pretty badly, partly because the NRCC wouldn't give the paper a copy to review:
The ad is referring to a non-binding resolution last year, sponsored by Charterite Councilman Christopher Smitherman, that would have asked the Cincinnati Police Department to change its policy on the use of the stun guns on children under 11. Democratic Councilman John Cranley, who is opposing Republican Steve Chabot in the 1st District congressional race, voted against the resolution and in support of the police policy.
That's remarkable because most of the attacks on Cranley have been that he's "turned his back" on police. And it puts national Republicans on the same side as Smitherman -- a councilman one prominent Republican officeholder famously called "a smart-mouthed little punk" -- and against the Cincinnati Police.
The ad also alleges that Cranley took money from campaign contributors with business before City Council, but the supporting fine print flies by so quickly it's difficult to know what the GOP's talking about.
The NRCC is the only campaign running ads in Cincinnati -- local or national -- that has refused to release its ads to the Enquirer. (Sometimes, campaigns will even make their opponent's ads available so they can be fact-checked.) NRCC spokesman Ed Patsu cited "policy."

why not just get a nice pair of tongs? he probably supported "tasering our kids" because, honestly, he didn't want people to think "those things are dangerous!"
in my opinion, the whole "gun culture thing" is getting us into trouble in Iraq... we shoot first and relate to people afterwards...
after seeing the sort of kickbacks that NYc police commissioner "bernie kerik" got, there might be something here that we don't know.

The silver lining to this latest smear attack on him, is that it must mean that the Republicans are running scared and that Cranley has a shot at winning. I hope so, because he is an impressive candidate. I hope that people contribute to his campaign so that he can counter the attack.

I`m from Cincinnati, and graduated from the same high school as Cranley.Chabot is a lune.I`m in district # 2,so I get to vote for Victoria Wulsin who is running against super-lune,Jean Schmidt.
The Cincinnati Enquirer surprises me every once in a while. It`s great to see them run the story about the mudslingers at the NRCC.
Those folks are amazing.I thought about running against Schmidt myself, but a good friend of mine rescued me from that idiocy.
Jim Borgman`s cartoons are the most honest thing about the Enquirer other than the obits.

Sully18, as a disabled vet I want to thank you from the bottom of my Democratic heart for your support of Dr. Wuslin! I just e-mailed her today and blessed her for that ad against Schmidt's performance on the congressional floor. I cannot remember when I hated someone so much as I did Schmidt at that time. Please encourage everyone you can to vote for Dr. Wuslin and regain the respect of the nation for that district. Only Sensenbrenner is a bigger embarassment.

Cranley should quickly run a counter ad proclaiming that Chabot is taking a side opposite the police department and is in favor of shooting kids rather than allowing police to use non-lethal means to subdue them when confronted with deadly force.

Why doesn't the RNCC just show a PhotoShopped photo of Cranley eating piping hot barbequed children?
Maybe the guy who came up with the PhotoShopped pic of Al Franken as a baby could do the work. He's apparently under contract to the Repubs.
