NY-26: Poll: Reynolds Challenger Takes Lead

Tom Reynolds -- who as chief of the NRCC is supposed to be worrying about other House races -- is suddenly finding good cause to start worrying about his own. Dem challenger Jack Davis is now leading Reynolds by a surprising five points, 50%-45%, a new poll commissioned by upstate's WGRZ-TV from SurveyUSA finds. Is Foleygate to blame? Unclear. Reynolds' position is actually unchanged from the 45% he had late last month, and Davis' lead is due entirely to his gain of seven points, which could have a great deal to do with the fact that the Green Party candidate -- who late last month commanded eight points -- has since been knocked off the ballot.

Why is there a button that says "Read More" when there's nothing more to read?

Even if the numbers don't really mean a change against Reynolds - it still sounds and looks good. And the media narrative is really GREAT

Fascinating. This is analagous to the Jedi rebels realizing that they really can harm the Federation fleet. Reynolds has been wounded. He is not invulnerable. He bleeds. This completely changes the psychology of the race.

Handed the keys to the district and his roladex by the sleazy Bill Paxon, Reynolds is the guy whose career only ever had one trajectory - up and with a red bullet. He lived up to his local nickname of "Representative Clout". His detractors joked that it should be "Representative Flout".

He is very arrogant. Constituents frequently complain of non-responses to their correspondence. Perception is that he has bigger fish to fry. Witness the boneheaded attempt at manipulation by using children as shields at his news conference the other night. This resulted in a respected local commentator to pen a story in today's paper with the headline "Reynolds exploits kids as TV props". That stupid trick and any other ones he has up his sleeve through election day are suddenly being examined for what they are. The local NPR station today described him as "sweating profusely" during his news event yesterday with Pataki. They added that the room at the Amherst COC was warm, but the disposition of his perspiration would never ever have been mentioned in the past.

Front page of the Buffalo news today has a picture of him with Laura Bush under the headline "Hastert's office told about Foley three years ago". Hardly the bounce he expected from the 1st Lady. LOL. So he is wounded and he is trapped into the reality that he has either been lying or that he is really stupid/uncaring over his role in the Foley affair. Fordham's cozy chats with the FBI can't be helping Reynolds sleep at night either.

In terms of landing the biggest fish in the House this year, the Democrats can't really do better. Let's hope that we quickly see some serious DNC and private doner money directed to Jack Davis. Reynolds will be pulling out all the stops - so it is far from over. Let's drive it home.

Maybe it's just general advice, as in "You should read more." Kinda presumptuous, if you ask me.
