NY-19: GOPer Kelly Erupts At Debate: "You Have No Shame!"

GOP Rep. Sue Kelly, who's facing a tougher-than-expected challenge from former rock star and Dem candidate John Hall, boiled over with indignance at a debate yesterday between the two candidates. Today's Times Herald-Record reports that after Hall made his first reference to Foleygate, Kelly exploded:

"I just can't believe that you would accuse me, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a teacher of doing something that would harm children," Kelly said. "I have fought for children all of my life! You have no shame!"

Kelly's been on the defensive since Foleygate broke because she headed the board which oversees the page program; a recent poll shows Hall within four points of Kelly, and CQ Politics recently downgraded the race from "Republican Favored" to "Leans Republican." View Kelly's eruption here.

Accountability. It's what's for dinner. Along with crow.

The truth hurts.

Like these fake displays of righteous indignation are going to help you with a newspaper's editorial board.

Sorry you're upset, Sue. If I were as incompetent as you and your leadership, I would be, too.

Foley had to be turned away from the page dorm in 2000 -- when she was on the board. There are two explanations for not knowing about this problem: coverup or incompetence. I guess she is choosing to fall back on incompetence.

Pages had reported these problems both before and during her tenure. She's obviously just praying that the newspaper doesn't do it's homework.

Why nobody refers to "La Cage Aux Foiles"? Wouldn't be a nicer name than dreary, unimaginative Foleygate? One more -gate and I will barf, and there are more scandals to come.

Perhaps some naming system like for hurricanes is in order.

La Cage Aux Foiles would rub the 'Republican base" quite nicely, and one could make a cute music show with two choruses of pages, girls and boys, and a line of dancing Congressmen woing them both, enter Foley, stage left.

One can even write a role for the good Congresswoman Kelly, say "A am a grandmother, you know, but lets it does not spoil the show"

Hall should take her comments at face value. Kelly probably didn't know, and that's because she was kept out of the loop by her Republican bosses. Remember: Alexander didn't go to Kelly or anyone else on the Page Board. Alexander went to his political boss Reynolds.

The fact that Kelly knows nothing is a sign of the coverup. So, it's her choice: Was is a coverup which kept her legitimate board out of the loop, or is she hiding something herself?
