MO-SEN: NRSC Sinks $1.3 Mil Into Ads Attacking McCaskill

Today the NRSC sank $1,326,382 into the Missouri Senate race, spending every dime of that money on negative ads, a new filing with the Federal Election Commission shows. The big cash buy comes just as a new Mason-Dixon poll shows the race to be a dead heat, with the candidates deadlocked at 43%.

I have been watching their negative ads. The NRSC isn't getting much for its money. The negatives are pretty bland. Basically they accuse her of being a Democrat. Big woop. Everybody knows she is a Democrat. She hasn't kept it a secret or anything.

They were doing better when they were running positive ads for Talent.

Talent has a real problem. He is against increasing the minimum wage and stem cell research. Those issues are really popular with most Missouri voters.

I saw them on MTP today, and it's clear that Talent has only one strategy, straight from the Rove playbook: paint McKaskill as weak on the WOT. It's very clear they have nothing else to run on, that it's all attack. They are very clearly just trying to survive this election.

I wish she had more teeth (even tho I am reporting from Oregon). She needs to tie him to Bush directly and repeatedly. Talent kept hitting her for her support of habeas corpus. That's a huge opening. Since when are Americans against habeas corpus? This is a point that the Dems need to counter. THe Repubs are saying, if you support HC for terrorist, you might as well be a terrorist. While the Dem position needs to be that Bush has caved in to fear. He is so afraid of the terrorists, he's willing to sell down the river the very basis of American views of fairness and justice. And there is just no defending that.
