MN-06: Poll: Wetterling Expands Lead Over Bachmann
Dem House candidate Patty Wetterling -- the children's advocate whose profile was boosted immeasurably by Foleygate -- has expanded her lead over GOP Rep. Michelle Bachmann to eight points. A new Star Tribune poll finds that Wetterling is leading Bachmann 48%-40%. Previous polls have shown various results, usually finding either a dead heat or small leads for one or the other candidate. Says the Trib: "Those who said they know a lot about the Foley story, and those who said that it was affecting their vote favored Wetterling by a significant margin."

I'm a veteran of 30 years of political wonkery/policy hackery out here in the North Star state and I have to admit that this is just about the oddest congressional race I have witnessed in my career.
At the outset, this race was pretty much Bachmann's to lose, but things seem to be careening out of control for her lately and she may be on the way to handing one of the more conservative congressional districts in the country over to the Dems.
Bachmann has unleashed about two weeks worth of extremely negative advertising against Wetterling (both from the National Republican Congressional Committee and her own campaign), which would seem to indicate that she's losing ground.
Bachmann has been her own worst enemy to a great extent. She didn't talk about global warming and intelligent design during her endorsement campaign, but she's all over YouTube talking about those issues and that, along with the Foley incident, have put rocks in her pockets in the polling pool.
Gonzo, I agree that she and Katherine Harris almost look like twin sisters who took a two-week vacation from the Wedding Cake Model factory.

The latest Majority Watch poll for MN-06 puts Wetterling up 50-45 (polling dates Oct. 8-10).
