IN-09: Sodrel Campaign Stop With Hastert Nixed

Another GOP House member has nixed a planned campaign stop with Speaker Dennis Hastert. GOP Rep. Mike Sodrel, who's locked in a tight rematch with former Dem Rep. Baron Hill, was supposed to campaign with Hastert on Tuesday. The event's gotten the ax, however, according to the Associated Press. Sodrel claims Hastert cancelled due to the strains of Foleygate. But Hill has worked to turn Hastert into a liability for Sodrel, demanding that the GOP Rep return the estimated $77,000 he's received in campaign contributions from Hastert. Sodrel dismissed Hill's demand as a ploy: "He would like to have every Republican member of Congress resign," Sodrel griped.

I guess the rats are deserting the ship. None of them want to be seen with Hastert, or the rest of the leadership, for that matter. Nobody wants to be seen as 'part of that bunch'.

So does this mean that Hastert is only campaigning with 30 candinates this year?

didn't Hastert claim on fatboy's radio program, just in the past couple of days - after Foley had burst upon the political landscape, that he was going to campaign with 31 rethuglican house candinates across the nation this year.

Should somebody do a countdown? Have others bailed that I missed? Will he stay out of single digits for actual events that occur.

Maybe a small pool as to how many republican candinates are going to welcome and headline Hastert by election day. Or perhaps flip the coin and a pool on candinates who cancel, bail out or run screaming from his presence between now and election day.
