IL-06: Roskam Featured Guest At Fundraiser Headlined By Hastert
Peter Roskam -- the GOP candidate who suggested that Dem vet amputee Tammy Duckworth wanted to "cut and run" from Iraq -- doesn't appear to be letting Foleygate prevent him from enjoying the fundraising help of Speaker Dennis Hastert. The embattled Hastert is headlining an upcoming private fundraiser for Roskam and GOP candidate David McSweeney, who's targeting Dem Rep Melissa Bean in Illinois' eighth, according to an invite obtained by Election Central. The event -- which also features President Bush -- is set for Oct. 12 at the Chicago Hilton. A Roskam rep declined comment. View the invite here.

I think the invitation would fit nicely in a Duckworth ad.
How is she polling right now?

She was ahead by 5 on Oct 4. But here in the Sixth, I've been receiving very very nasty NRCC mailings and TV ads daily.

Roskam, of course, is saying in has television ads that those of us who live in IL-06 should vote for him because we need "change" in Washington.

Heard over the weekend that we were up big on the heels of the Zogby/Reuters poll saying we were up 5. Then I got this Roskam email Friday night:
Political columnist Robert Novak reports that the Illinois 6th District race has shifted from the "leans Democrat" column to the "leans Republican" column. Said Novak, "After some time on the air, state Sen. Peter Roskam (R) has put himself a step ahead of rival Tammy Duckworth (D). At this point, her campaign is in a reactionary posture to every
message statement. His trend line in the polls has him widening the gap and running ahead by five points."
I think that's BS because the rest of the email was typical Repub up is down, black is white crap. It was actually titled "R.I.P. Social Scurity" and blasted Duckworth for wanting to dismantle it. LOL. But if anybody has a Evans/Novak Poll showing Duckworth down I'd like to see it.

Seems like a great opportunity to do some kind of protest event at the Chicago Hilton on October 12th. I live in Chicago, would love to participate. Anyone out there know of any plans to demonstrate. This is just crying out for creative expression of outrage... yearning for change... throw the bums out...etc, etc. Many of the major culprits will be attending. What are we waiting for?

IMO protests are lame, unproductive and passe. A better idea is to blogwhore the hell out of this to make sure Bean and Duckworth raise more than the million these clowns will get at their $1000 a plate sitdown luncheon.

Are protests passe and lame? What if 100,000 (or more) people spontaneously congregated at the Chicago Hilton at about the time this fundraiser was about to begin with banners and posters registering their outrage about the the current situation of corruption and incompetence of the GOP and the Bush Administration. Wouldn't that make news? Wouldn't that make some small dent worth making? With elections being decided with the smallest of margins as recent elections indicate doesn't every effort count? We have to quit being lazy and get out there and fight.

You wanna get out there and fight? Hone your arguments, limber up your vocal cords for talking all day, get a haircut, put on a clean shirt and get down to the Democratic candidate of your choice's hq and start phonebanking or canvassing. Do it every waking hour you have the spare time. If you're no good at it volunteer to drive canvassers or haul literature. Do something constructive.
If 100,000 (or more) people spontaneously congregated at the Chicago Hilton at about the time this fundraiser was about to begin with banners and posters registering their outrage about the current situation of corruption and incompetence of the GOP and the Bush Administration it'd make the news alright.
Karl Rove would send a couple young Repubs or hire a couple of Mexican indigents who need $100 accompanied by a Fox News crew to burn a flag. That'd give Daley an excuse to send in the cops to bust heads in order to "protect" Denny who he says has always been fair to Chicago and his buddy Bush who came out to celebrate his birthday a few months ago and we'd lose the election.
I'm sorry dbeckett but Abby Hoffman, while a great political organizer managed to accomplish two things in his life: protect a portion of the St. Lawrence Seaway from pollution for awhile and inadvertantly get Richard Nixon elected president.
