IL-06: GOP Flyer In Vet Amputee's District Blasts "Cut And Run" Dems

What a bunch of jokers: If at first you don't succeed, smear, smear again. You may recall that GOPer Peter Roskam got knocked around for suggesting that Dem Tammy Duckworth, the veteran who left her legs in Iraq, wanted to "cut and run" from the war. He disavowed the "cut and run" line, saying it was "not my language." But then Roskam turned around and brought a surrogate in a few days ago to keep up the retreat-and-defeat attacks for him. Now there's more. The Illinois GOP has just sent out the following mailer in the sixth district, reviving the very phrase Roskam disavowed:

Note the cut-out white spot where the gun should be -- suggesting that those questioning the Bush administration's policies in Iraq want to take the troops' guns away. This stuff is contemptible enough by itself. But to disavow an attack like this one while standing by as others keep the same craven smears alive -- just embarrassing.

At least anyone inspired to actually "Vote Today" will be stymied.

We have early voting in Illinois. Of course in DuPage County which comprises most of the 6th it's only on new Diebold touchscreens bought by the Repub controlled election commission. I tell every Dem voter here to wait til election day and ask for an optiscan ballot. It'll take more work to steal those votes.

Didn't they get the memo?

Bush himself is cutting and running from staying the course.

It shows just how desperate and inept a campaigner Roskam really is. He appeared with David Beamer on Monday who spouted the same stay the course forever and a day if need be, war of civilizations BS he's been peddling since his spring op-ed in the WSJ. Wasn't Beamer in the DeWine phony 9/11 commercial?

Roskam would have been at 35% by Labor Day if he'd been saying that garbage all summer but he was smarter than that and generally mouthed whistling past the graveyard platitudes when he had to answer Iraq questions. Still doesn't have one word about Iraq, Afghanistan, Al Qaeda or the war on terra on his website. Lately though as it's all fallen apart he's started echoing Duckworth so much that during the last debate she told him it was nice to see him come around to her way of thinking.

By bringing in Beamer and using this mailer he's blown his credibility on the issue with all but the most diehard Rpeublican foreign policy dunces.
