Seeing how this all brings the priest child molestation fiasco to mind, we might as well drag the Catholic Church into this. Who knows, the Miami Archdiocese might have encouraged their parishioners to vote "Pro Life" and Pro Foley during the 2004 election...

being gay has nothing to do with Mark Foley's alleged paedophilic tendencies

I have seen no evidence that Mark Foley is a pedophile. The pages may be immature but they are not very young children.

Sexual predators, heterosexual or homosexual, generally prefer youth over - umm, ahh - maturity.

One very wierd character was Arthur Shawcross, Jr.. Among other things, this serial killer was not a psychopath. He showed genuine remorse for his crimes. Shawcross was out of prison for pedophilic killing of at least one young child. A plea bargain had allowed parole. Shawcross was only identified as the murderer of a number of prostitutes when he was spotted returning to urinate on the corpse of his last victim. That switch was rare, if not unique.

Would it have been better if Foley had been a heterosexual predator? Surely not.

In my opinion there has come to be an all too easy acceptance of sexual predators among leftwing bloggers because of Bill Clinton. While Lewinski was an all too willing volunteer, Paula Jones was not. California seems pretty much set on re-electing a completely unrepentant sexual predator as its governor. How much better it is these days for such folks. Could almost make one yearn for the puritanical 50's.

News reports say that friends and acquaintances of Foley have never known him to be a heavy drinker. Sounds like alcoholism is just an excuse. Now he says he was sexually abused as a youth by a clergyman. Sounds to me like one more attempt to mitigate his responsibility. Shouldn’t Foley be pressured to give the name of his abuser on the grounds that to not do so is to protect him and endanger other young boys.
