FL-SEN: Harris: Let's Get To Bottom Of Dems And Media's Role In Foleygate
Katherine Harris wants to get to the bottom of Foleygate -- that is, the role in the scandal allegedly played by Democrats and the media. Today's Miami Herald reports that Harris had this to say about the Foley scandal: "We are going to be very interested to find out who in the media or on the other side of the aisle knew about this and kept it from the public interest because our children were at stake." The DSCC quickly rejoined that unlike other Republicans, Harris has yet to return the $2,000 she received from Foley.

The real scandal isn't that a Republican congressman was hitting on 16 year-olds, the real scandal is the media is talking about it.
The real scandal isn't that Don Rumsfeld "encouraged" military contractors to beat the crap out of prosoners and force them to feliciate each other, the real problem is that the media is talking about it.
The real scandal isn't that Americans are being killed in Iraq, yet the President doesn't really have a plan, the real scandal isn't that the administration is falsifying government reports, the real scandal is that the American people are finding out about it. If these pesky Americans could just stick their heads in the sand everything would be OK.

It took Harris and her burlesque of a campaign 4 days to vomit out loud about the Foley thing, and if anybody is surprised that her judgement is bereft of anything resembling intelligence just hasn't been paying attention.
I don't have first hand knowledge, but I assume the RNC has had teams of lawyers/researchers/investigators working triple overtime looking for any sort of off-key contact between a Democrat and a Congressional page. That such a thing could be found might still happen, I suppose, but after days of presumably impassioned GOP effort to root such information out with no apparent result likely indicates declining chances that it will.
The major media, run so much like the privately sponsored outlet of the GOP media machine, has been perpetually hours (eons in the 24-hour news cycle) behind the news blogs with every Foleygate update and revelation. Of course, there is some argument to be made for fact-checking and intellectual integrity on the part of serious jounalists, but however the facts are parsed it should be clear to even the casual observer that the MSM had about as much to do with this brouhaha as the Girl Scouts. That Harris has trotted out the "liberal media" shiboleth bespeaks of two things: desperation and intellectual vacancy.
But actually, none of that matters since Harris wraps her statement with the well being of children. Even wide-eyed innocents will see this as nothing but pandering to the Right, something the Right can currently do without.
