FL-22: GOPer Shaw's Ad Hails ... Bill Clinton!
In a sign of just how much American politics has shifted in recent weeks, GOP Rep. Clay Shaw is running the first Republican ad we've ever heard hailing the accomplishments of President...Clinton. The narrator's first words in the radio spot, delivered in an upbeat tone, are: "President Clinton is coming to South Florida this week!" The ad then runs through all of Shaw's successes working with the former President. Its conclusion: "So as Palm Beach County welcomes Bill Clinton to town, let’s say thank you to Clay Shaw. He’s independent and effective." A Time poll in August put Clinton's approval rating at 70% — nearly double that of his successor. To listen to the ad, click here.

Rick Santorum did the same thing:

And yet Bush just visited Shaw's district (in which I am a resident) to drum up support-- or rather money, since Bush avoided the public at large and only attended a fat cats luncheon up in Boca Raton, then quickly departed, but not without fouling up rush hour traffic in two counties.
Shaw has been trumpeting how independent he is from Bush, so why the presidential visit?
On and take a look at our congressional district-- it is the most incredibly gerrymandered thing you have ever seen, carefully drawn to include just the richest, beachfront areas, with just a couple of middle class red-neck areas (like ours), but definitely not "gay town" or any of the Black or Hispanic neighborhoods. Old Elbridge Gerry himself woudl be embarrassed by this monstrosity.

In the words of the old song by Joni Mitchell:

That you dont know what you've got 'til it's gone

Independent? Oh really? Working together? BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Where's the need for that? Didn't Clay hear? The Palm Beach County Republicans saved Western civilization! Want proof? Here's the 'welcoming message' on the Palm Beach County Republican's website (emphases mine). http://www.gop-pbc.org/
Perhaps I should call Congressman Shaw and ask if, in his new found spirit of cooperation, he will disavow this type of end-zone dancing. But then, perhaps he's a bit more worried about the Dem's end-zone dancing. I consider it a testament to my powers of self-restraint that I haven’t called Sid’s office to ask if he’s still smilin’.p>

I was reflecting on this sentiment the other night, when Clinton was shown.
I realized that when I see Clinton, I feel a sense of ease and prosperity that all is right in the world and that 'our leader' knows what to do in a crisis, how to avoid them, and how not to get us bogged down in them. I feel secure and content.
In contrast...whenever they show Bush..I become filled with apprehension and anxiety and wonder WTF has he gone and done and how much is this going to cost us financially and with American lives.
I think Santorum and Shaw, are on to something. I think a lot of Americans, who have heard nothing but the 'politics of fear' the constant polarization...you are either with us or against us..rhetoric from this administration...actually no longer feel safe or happy when they see Bush. They sit in front of their TV's anticipating conflict, strife and just get agitated.
If this does not sound like Chicken Little... 'the sky is falling, the sky is falling" I don't know what does.
Clinton is a breath of fresh air nowadays...he reminds us of a safer time in America and of what it is like to have a REAL leader. No wonder GOP candidates are using him in their ads. If Al Gore had used Clinton...chicken little would not be in the WH scaring us daily.

And remember, Mr. President, I only voted to impeach you on 2 of the 4 proposed counts. Welcome to South Florida.
