CT-SEN: New Lamont Ad: Re-Electing Lieberman Is "Insanity"

In this undeniably funny new ad from Ned Lamont, a car repeatedly drives straight into brick walls with graffiti labels such as "Iraq War" and "Dick Cheney's Energy Bill." After the car is wrecked and crumpled beyond recognition, an actor playing a dazed and confused Joe Lieberman stumbles out from the driver's seat. Lamont concludes: "If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result, why in the world would we send Joe Lieberman back to the U.S. Senate?" View it here.

So, if re-electing a senator over and over again is the definition of insanity, presumably Mr Lamont believes that anyone in Massachusetts planning to vote for Senator Kennedy should be locked in a padded cell...or is it just those who have the temerity to vote for someone Mr Lamont opposes he thinks it's ok to label insane?

Telling people they're mad: what an innovative way to seek votes!

You are misstating his position. He's obviously not saying that re-electing ANY Senator over and over again is insane.

He's saying it's insane to say that we should stay the course in Iraq and then expect things to improve.

He's also not telling voters that they are insane.

We send Ted Kennedy to the Senate term after term and get EXACTLY what we expect...someone who stands up to power and is a national leader seeking social and individual justice. Who do you send?

user-pic

I'm reminded of the exchange in a Dudley Moore - Peter Cook sketch:

Moore: Do you feel you’ve learnt by your mistakes here? Cook: I think I have, yes, and I think I can probably repeat them almost perfectly.

Funny ad.

But man, could Ned Lamont POSSIBLY look more uncomfortable and dorky? Kind of ruins what is otherwise a very creative idea.

Oh, come on boys and girls; let's call a spade a spade. Is Mr. Lieberman looking out for our interests, the interests of the United States, or interests of another kind? To quote a line from Braveheart, one of my favorite movies; a memorable line from a true psychopath, Longshanks, reminiscent of the Republican Neocon mindset:

"My scouts tell me their archers are miles away and no threat to us. Arrows cost money. Use up the Irish. Their dead cost nothing."

Let's call the spade what it is, shall we?

2006 - $49,500
Career - $286,258

Nice to see the full range of Lamont supporters crawling out of the woodwork: alongside the loony left we have the anti-semites making the shock revelation that a Jewish PAC has contributed a (remarkably small) amount to the most prominent Jewish statesman in the US.

Bravo! What fine upstanding patriots you lot are - is there no depth to which you will not sink.

To Cyby9: I agree, you do get what you vote for with Kennedy - just as Connecticut's known and supported what they've got from Lieberman - so what convuluted point are you trying to make? You just happen to prefer Kennedy's failed far-left agenda; I prefer centrist moderation and governing from the centre.

Look: you guys keep doing what you're doing: your brilliant campaign strategy looks like giving Lieberman a big win approaching the margins that seem likely in New York - only this time in a three-way race. In 2008, would you mind going to work for the Republican Presidential candidate and helping him in exactly the same way you've helped Neddie-boy? Please?

Seems to me the polls are closing. Rasmussen has it down to 8, Zogby to 5, and Lieberman and his folks are all mad at the NYT for endorsing Lamont.

Would they really be that thin-skinned and shrill over a newspaper endorsement if their polls are showing "New York" margins of winning? I think not.

Dear Animadverto,

What spade would you call Joe Lieberman? "Kike", "hebe", "jewboy", "house jew"?

People like you are the reason Jews like me will vote against certain Democrats who can't be counted to support the only real friend this country has in the Mideast. Keep it up. Every time you folks talk, Karl Rove and his friends clap.

Wow Gary, in just a few short weeks, even in one post, you've gone from concerned Lamont supporter to centrist, Lieberman-supporting Democrat outraged at the reprehensible treatment "our" former Vice Presidential nominee received at the hands of the "fringe left" to snide (and somewhat incoherent/see below) Republican. I'm shocked, shocked! I tell you. Your previous costumes were so convincing. And you picked Halloween of all days to drop the mask! You are clever.

On the incoherent thing:

I have many Jewish friends. I will, however, not put the interests of this country or its citizens behind the interests of any other country, be the peoples of those countries, Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu or whatever combination thereof.

PAC's/Special Interests have deteriorated the very foundation of our Democratic processes and system of government. Pro Israel PAC's are simply one example, although a “prominent” one in our present day political environment.

That’s it, you go play the hate card, and it was to be expected. Lieberman is a lifetime career politician. No worse or better than many other lifetime career politicians. Santorum is about as “Far Right Christian” as it gets. He is also a psychopath and a hypocrite, not far from a Fascist Nazi.

Go play your anti Semite hate card. It was to be expected, as was Israel’s response in Lebanon during the summer, as our own government and the people of the World sat back and watched the carnage. Sorry, you will get no high ground from this rhetoric or debate; the documented “ammunition” regarding the truth is concrete, pun intended.

Why does everyone hate us….???? Is this question so profound? Is everyone that far gone from reality? Are you afraid to speak the truth? Are you afraid of yourself? Nothing against the Jews my child, there is plenty of hate to go around with regards to the fundamentalist extremists in every religion.

But, you go play your anti-Semite hate card. Does it make your feel powerful? Have you been vindicated? Are you politically correct? Will it stop people from dying? God bless you.

Do you feel yourself a chosen, my child Sage. Not to worry, so think your Muslim and Christian Brothers and Sisters. A 33% wager and bargain in fate; who will win? The boat is not big enough for all of you. I feel your "spiritual perfection", child...And so does God. Be careful what you bargain for in life, for you will reap the fruit of such bargain in death. Stay the course.

Drop the "dual loyalty" nonsense... Lieberman is a terrible Senator, who could probably give a shit about his constituents or anything else, but aside from the fact that $50K out of $15+ million doesn't buy all that much influence, you're basically accusing him of treason on little more than a hunch.

Some of those who supported the Iraq war did so because of Israel, some did because they just like wars for whatever reason, and others because of basic political cowardice. If there's nothing in the public record to show how Joe owes more to Israel that to the US, then it's a pretty sleazy charge to be making.

user-pic

Money talks, bullshit walks. Let the transfer of money stand for public record. PAC's have no business in our Democracy and they are the reason behind its corruption, deterioration and the National/Global environments that exist today. But feel free to "Stay the course". To prove this let the Facts be submitted to a candid world.

Another example of LIEberman - THE BRAIN - at work.

Headline: Will R's ride LIEberman coattails to wins in CT

....Loath to be seen as a spoiler, Lieberman dismissed the idea that his success could hurt the Democratic effort to retake the House.

"I haven't thought about it," Lieberman said. Contending that most voters tend to cross party lines, he added: "People are going to be smart enough to pick their way."
