CT-05: New Johnson Ad Has Murphy Hanging Out With Drug Dealer
GOP Rep. Nancy Johnson -- who recently aired an ad christened by a local paper as the most evil ad "ever" -- has done it again. Her latest ad shows an actor depicting Dem Chris Murphy campaigning door-to-door, where he gets the brush-off from one voter after another and even slapped by one woman who accuses him of wanting "sex offenders" in public housing. The only voter to invite Murphy in is a stoner, who says: "Murphy! You wanna weaken penalties for drug dealers, man! That's so cool!" View it here.

At the beginning of the campaing season - i do believe I read - how well respected and how much character nancy johnson had - but wow character sure disappears fast in a tight campaign doesn't it. And it is such an awful ad too. I did some calling for Moveon Call for Change in that district last night and someone said they were going to vote for whomever made the least obnoxious ads - guess Johnson just lost that person's vote.

I didn't catch the whole ad, but Johnson also had one where her campaign was trying to show that Mr. Murphy would raise taxes by $76 Billion. Ha-ha.
Then there is this gem from their recent debate....
Johnson Calls War in Iraq a Distraction
http://nomorenancy.blogspot.com/
Over 2,700 American soldiers dead...More than 20,000 wounded...More than 100,000 Iraqi civilians killed...Over $500 billion spent...
What does all of this add up to for Nancy Johnson?
Apparently nothing more than a distraction.
You really can't make this stuff up folks. In a story appearing in The Register Citizen, Nancy Johnson criticizes Chris Murphy for talking about the war in Iraq, saying that it is merely a distraction and that she has no control over it. I know it's hard to believe that even Nancy would say something that stupid so read it for yourself:
Johnson accused Murphy of distracting voters by bringing forward national issues such as the war in Iraq.
"I believe some very serious mistakes have been made," she said of the conflict overseas.
Johnson added that she wished to concentrate on issues more local to Connecticut that fall within the realm of her position's control.
"Nancy Johnson calling this war a distraction is just as offensive as the President calling it is a comma," Murphy said Friday. He added that Johnson had voted for the war and that congress could control the war.

That ad is just kind of embarrassing for Nancy Johnson.
How can her campaign expect anyone to take that ad seriously? The whole premise of the ad and its execution is just so ridiculously outlandish that most viewers will just assume it's all a farce.
Plus, the juxtaposition with the weird ad and her smiling face at the end ties her much too closely to her own negative campaigning. A competent ad team wouldn't keep her that close to it.
But it's better than her previous Red Brigades approval message during her faux 24 spot.
